The film was marketed as the last 12 hours of Christ. Thats what I got onscreen. If someone went in expecting anything different, they shouldn't walk in to begin with.

A solid B/B+ though I didn't walk out of it with any kind of emotional attachment.

Post Re: The Passion of the Christ
I decided to watch this again with it being Easter and all and always remembered this more as memorable than particularly great after I saw it in the cinema way back. And in some way I still feel like that, but it actually is also pretty great by the way of Caviezel's lead performance and it's screenplay. If not considering the impact of The Bible and Jesus story on our known history I can see how it may be an iffy experience. But because they have in fact played a large part in shaping our societies I find it a very well directed adaptation. The violence inflicted on Jesus remains some unforgettable imagery.

Sequel starts filming in a few months. I’m actually pretty excited about it . No idea how it will do though.

Haven't watched in awhile but remember it being surprisingly great. Mel followed this with Apocalypto which is probably even better

Yes, looking forward to it too. We'll see how it does because it will be a little more abstract and nonlinear in its telling.

This gave me the same impact as Gladiator did. I saw both at the cinema, and at the time I just knew I was witnessing something special. Unfortunately both are getting sequels, which no matter how good they may eventually turn out to be, it devalues their classic statuses, particularly because they're decades later.

It is nice to revisit cinema experience from time to time. That I can remember, ones that gave me a truly marvellous and one-of-a-kind experience were Gladiator, The Passion of the Christ, Apocalypto, and Drive.

What is that website? Never heard of it. There's nothing about it on the reliable trades like Variety, Hollywood Reporter and Deadline. IMDB also has it in pre-production right now. Plus Mel Gibson just announced another film with Mark Wahlberg.

There may be plans for the future but this is definitely not shooting at the moment.

Wikipedia says it began shooting 3 weeks ago.

I don’t see why it’s fake news, what are Mel Gibson and Jim caviezel doing instead?

I hope they will use the sequel to build up to a Super Best Friends team-up movie with Moses, Mohammed, Buddha, Joseph Smith, L Ron Hubbard and Seaman.

It's like IMDB Pro, an industry resource.

That's being shopped around for investment by Lionsgate. Mel is free right now.

Not saying it's definitely happening, but I currently see no signs as to why it can't be shooting right now.

Jesus Revolution made $52M and that was pretty much done it's run by Easter and not a huge mainstream audience play. It was a solid run but think a POTC sequel could do really well financially. The first one adjusts to $546,199,412 so there's a lot of opportunity even with 2 decades passed.

I always thought it odd that it wasn't called The Passion of Christ. Saying "The Christ" feels super weird. But since this film, and having said the title hundreds of times, only when it is preceded by "The Passion of" does saying "The Christ" feel natural.
