I thought it was shit. One of the worst movies this year. It wasn't funny, it was annoying. Thank god it's over.

It was shit and a shocking disappointment after their previous fine work. You can see it in the KJ average of C+ for this movie compared to Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz at A-.

Agreed with Lecter. I've seen it three times and I've gotten so much more out of each viewing. Easy choice for my top 10 this year.

Absolutely agree as well. First time I really liked it, but thought it trailed the other two easily, now it's right up there and all three have major strengths making it hard to make a favorite for me.

 Re: The World's End
I really fucking hated this movie. I absolutely love Shaun of the Dead and only found Hot Fuzz alright. I was looking forward to this though but it was just absolute shit. So boring and dull. I watched it two nights ago and it's pretty much already out of my brain.
4/10

 Re: The World's End
Great film that deserves multiple viewings to enjoy, but not as good as Shaun of the Dead
1. Shaun of the Dead (A+) 2. The World's End (A-) 3. Hot Fuzz (A-)

The World's End
Yeah, so I finally got around to watching this. I'd seen Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, and both are good films. I prefer Hot Fuzz out of the two, and now out of all three, just. The World's End is like the other two in many ways. Unique takes on tried Hollywood genres. But Simon Pegg's comedy just isn't laugh-out-loud funny. I was never a fan of Spaced, for example. They are all quality entertainment with cool lines, good fun action, and are just generally interesting views, and when I watch them I am never bored or lose my attention. But I see them more as nods and winks to culture, brands, ideas, reputations, than comedy. Which is cool and everything, it's just that I always read people saying they are great comedies. In my opinion, they are not. They are fun movies, but not hilarious. Hot Fuzz is the closest one to being funny.
Anyway, it is a good movie. Great cast. Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Pierce Brosnan, Rosamund Pike, Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman, and Bill Nighy. I mean, what a cast! But also there were great supporting turns by British faces that are probably unknown to American viewers. People such as Rafe Spall, Darren Boyd, Steve Oram, Michael Smiley, and David Bradley. So, films such as these are always appealing to me because of such familiarity with the talent involved, and settings used, and accents/dialogue used and so on.
Shaun of the Dead B Hot Fuzz B+ The World's End B+

 Re: The World's End
I dig the whole Invasion of the Bodysnatchers thing, and when it kicks off it is a lot of fun. Smashing people's skulls in and ripping off limbs, and blue ink coming out is awesome to watch. I fantasized about how I would act if I were in the same danger. And, of course, I love the fact that it's all linked to a pub crawl. There's no standout performance or scene, but I always looked forward to Nick Frost's scenes than Pegg's or any of the others. I've always preferred him, especially in Hot Fuzz.

 Re: The World's End
So I revisited this today. I was way more intersted in the group dynamic and the small details and quips than the alien invasion stuff. I would also re-jig my ranking. I think Hot Fuzz is the clear winner, then Shaun of the Dead, with this one coming in last. Not that it's a bad film. Still fun and passes away the time nicely, just not as much material to play around with as there is with a zombie movie and a police movie. And not having clearly defined rules as to what kills them irked me. I feel a key part of this genre is the human characters figuring out how to overcome them, but that didn't happen here - not even a conversation about it. When their heads are smashed, they still work. Limbs torn off, they still work. So the film missed that for me.

 Re: The World's End
After ten years of stewing on all three films, this is definitely the weakest of the three as everyone says. It is kinda cheesy at times. Moreover it is not a tightly written as the other two and as a few have pointed out, some of the jokes were over played. That being said Gary King is a hyper realistic over the top character. Like I know people exactly like him. They portray an alcoholic counter culture guy who peaked in high school very well.
I think if this film had a part two it would be a lot better. Most of the the genre it tries to homage into vague like Algren alluded to, and so it has less material to work with. However, the post apocalyptic pseudo fantasy western setting is very popular in the last several years, particularly in video games. Just look at Fallout. So a film that explores the world of Gary King leading a band of blanks ala a Dungeons and Dragons adventure would have been a blast. Curious if they ever try this. As is the movie leaves more to be desired than satisfied.
Back to an A- for me, maybe even a B+.

 Re: The World's End
A film released back in the time, KJ got more views and reviews to films like this. I didn't catch it at the time, but with the talent involved I intended to see it sometime. And a bit disappointed with it actually. There's some nice humor and good performances in this, but for a comedy it's not funny enough and I just couldn't be bothered with the story really. Has a bit of merit but it's more of a mismatch for me. (Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are definitely the superior films, but between them there's also a gap with the former being great and the latter just good).
