Re: A Good Day to Die Hard
It's not a perfect film and you can see there was a lot of stuff missing, but it still entertained me very well. It's almost non-stop action and I had a grin on my face for most of the time. I also really liked the moscow setting. I can see why some people didn't liked it but the hate it is getting is undeserved, imo. This is no Die Hard for sure, but it's still a damn entertaining action film. Only thing that bothered me a bit was the editing during some of the action scenes.
Nah, there are more than enough movies I don't like, but I do have to admit that I'm a bit of an easy grader (is that correct?) when it comes to action movies.

Re: A Good Day to Die Hard
For once I agree with Bradley, this and the previous Die Hard are really different movies altogether as a part of a different triology

Absolutely. I see the first three as true Die Hard movies, the last two are just damn entertaining action movies for me.

The first three are true Die Hard movies, the fourth is a hugely entertaining action movie (and in its way better than Die Hard 2), but the fifth...well...

Re: A Good Day to Die Hard
I felt offended by it and to what it degenerated one of my favorite action heroes growing up, whilst also not giving at least well-executed and well-shot action scenes and yet infusing the whole thing with wannabe father-son-drama.

Hopefully a director's cut will improve on some of your problems with the film.

Re: A Good Day to Die Hard
But it's not even the worst Die Hard film. Die Hard 2 is easily the worst. It does such a 180 from the first film, the one liners are awful, and action and twist is so overblown. It's the only one of the series I can't watch anymore. Still that film has merit, as does this one. I miss the fist fights in this one. It needed a great fight like the others.
I don't see how this one is so different though. Pretty much none of the sequels did what the original film did. They all went off in their own direction and spin on the genre. The only thing that really hurts this one is McClane doesn't speak the language and doesn't know whats going on, and his son is covert so he won't explain anything.

Re: A Good Day to Die Hard
John McClane should be getting recognised as the "the guy that saved the US on multiple occasions". I'd have thought he'd have a few medals from the President by now, especially for the fourth movie.

Die Hard with a Vengeance is the best. It is a perfect action movie. Willis and Jackson have amazing chemistry, and the franchise should have continued with them as friends/partners.

It's already a stretch that this one cop keeps getting into those situations (something that AGDTDH beats over our heads). How exactly would a cop and shopkeeper (who is an unwilling participant for most of the third movie) get into another situation together?

I was going to post the same thing, it was bad enough that Carl Winslow and Walter Peck were in the second film. The thing that works for the sequels is each one is stand alone. Putting Jackson back in the films would be bad. Justin Long was more than good enough. The problem is this time, his son didn't do anything for laughs, he played it completely straight.

Re: A Good Day to Die Hard
And in Live Free or Die Hard, he could have gone to the Wailing Wall wearing a sign reading, "I hate kikes." John McClane smiling because now he will know how it feels. Playful banter ensues.
Would have been classic.

A Good Day to Die Hard
Just seen this, and it wasn't as bad as everyone is making out. Sure, there were terrible points to it, erratic-edited action sequences, and it doesn't feel like a Die Hard movie much, but overall it was a fun ride of an action movie. I simply could not take to Jai Courtney being his son. The very idea that John McClane, just an average Joe cop caught in the wrong situation, would have a son that is a fucking CIA agent is just too hard to comprehend, even for a Die Hard movie.
I liked how there were references to the original Die Hard (him falling at the end in slo-mo, the music throughout being grande, and the "Yippi-ki-ay motherfucker" line), and the interplay between Jai and Bruce wasn't cringeworthy at all. The thing is, McClane just went through too much without getting a scratch on him, and the stuff he did was just so over-the-top, I don't know, it was crazy.
The story was basically just an excuse for some action as all of the bad guys died, like, every single one, and they returned to the US as heroes, which in that last scene it was a bit of a mismatch to the rest of the movie. I could see all of the twists and plot developments a mile off, and the script was written by someone that has just finished Day 01 in screenplay school, but the action scenes were cool (besides the bad editing and shaky-ish camera techniques) especially the entire scene of the helicopter shooting at the building and the truck being flipped early on the highway. But when Bruce's truck gets flipped, he gets out and is spotless. The ending scenes were visually great and exciting, like when the grenade went off and when the helicopter ripped that Russian to shreds and then the McClane's jumped off the building with John holding up the middle finger. It was pure fun, and I did enjoy myself overall.
For me, A Good Day to Die Hard was on-par with Live Free or Die Hard, perhaps even slightly better.

Re: A Good Day to Die Hard
I know I'm late with this, but it took me a while to figure out just how I really feel about this movie. Saw it a couple of days ago and honestly like some here I did enjoy it for the most part, but the script they had here was beyond terrible. The villains are lame, Bruce does seem somewhat bored at times and eventhough Jai Courtney looks believable doing action his dialogue is terrible and ultimately I feel he was wasted in the role.
The best part is easily the car chase IMO and that happens like in the first 20 minutes of the movie. The bits with the helicopter were fun too, but so fucking insanely over the top and ridiculous that I couldn't help, but shake my head in disbelief lol!
I really wish they would have taken full advantage of the R-rating and made a more grounded movie instead having the same over the top action as LFODH. Outside of the couple of f bombs and a little blood there was no reason for this to be R.
In the end I thought it was a ok timewaster, but not a very good DH movie at all.

Yeah, this was beyond awful. Feel bad for the die hard Die Hard fans, this could've been called something totally different.

Still, A Good Day to Die Hard is the best of the year in one area; trailers.
The first teaser with the Die Hard-esque music and big writing chopping between takes of woman-on-bike boobage and Bruce smiling is awesome. I've not seen a better trailer this year.
