 Re: Thor
8/10 -> B
I wasn't excited about (*sigh*) another comic book superhero movie. Especially when this year it seems like there's another one coming every month. The only one that looked good (and still does) to me was Captain America. I was pretty neutral on Thor.
But it turns out this is one of those movie you don't expect much from, but you end up being satisfied enough you just can't wait for a sequel.
First of I have to say that I loved Asgard and Jotunheim parts. In fact I would have loved if the whole movie was about the war between the two and it ended up with Thor being outcast to Earth. Because parts on Earth feel underdeveloped and lukewarm compared to the Asgard/Jotunheim part. But still the movie is very enjoyable, never boring, chugs along nicely... Branagh did a good job here.
Chris Hemsworth is awesome as Thor. In fact pretty much everyone is good here.
I saw this in 3D (unfortunately there was no 2D option available this time and that's the first time it has happened and hopefully it's the last time) and it doesn't benefit the movie at all. It's useless.
I must say that after seeing Thor I don't want that Avengers movie. I'd rather have it all separate, because as it is it looks like TA will most directly continue on Thor the most - they have to bring back Thor to Earth and they're using Loki as villain, which means that Thor 2 will most likely kick off where TA ends. And that's pretty dumb if you ask me. Also the whole TA deal still looks horrific. Soon enough we will have an adaptation of Marvel vs. Capcom fight game... Yawn...

Explain how The AVENGERS looks horrific?? If this were a JUSTICE LEAGUE movie, would you still feel the same and be honest??? Seeing multiple superheros and villains on 1 screen in a live action movie is a dream come true for comicbook fans alike.. Based on that, I don't understand your comment

 Re: Thor
Yes. All those superhero mashups are pretty dumb if you ask me. I don't understand why they just couldn't be kept in their universe as imagined. No they had to connect all of them... X-Men as an ensemble superhero movie makes sense. Bringing together various superheroes from completely different setting in one single universe is dumb. My 2 cents...

 Re: Thor
Well The Avengers is essentially what the comics are - a place here these superheroes occupy the same universe. I think the Loki angle is a good way to segway to the Avengers. I suspect they'll also go the Loki/Hulk angle too.
As for Thor, agree The Asgard and Jotunheim scenes are great and I wouldnt have minded if the whole film revolved around these and not Earth.
As for 2D vs 3D, i planned to see it in 2D but the only session I could see it was a 3D session. Not only did it cost me over double a 2D ticket (it was a discount day but 3D isnt discounted) but I had to sit through the inconvenience that is 3D. I'd say the film would be even better in 2D.

Am I the only person who thinks it would be really cool if Thor died and Portman grabs the thing and becomes a female version of Thor?

 Re: Thor
I'm a bit confused on the scene after the credits... So was that old scientist dude Loki the whole time, or is Loki now "controlling" him? Anyways, fun movie. The SHIELD/Avengers stuff was actually fun this time instead of in-your-face like in Iron Man 2. This could have been the most ridiculous movie ever with Asgard, Loki's helmet, and "Ice Giants," but they were able to pull it off and make it interesting. B+

I think it's just him controlling him. Or maybe just projecting an image. Loki is a trickster after all..

 Re: Thor
Loved it. A Superhero origin story mixed with some Shakespearean family angst mixed with some fish out of water comedy mixed with Viking mythology. And Kenneth somehow makes all that work together. Its right there with the rest of the new Marvel-verse. Couldn't even say which is the best and which is the worst.

9/10 It works together because it is largely just surface, simplistic bits of each of those story elements.

 Re: Thor
By the end of Thor I was already sick of it.
Sure, it was fun for a while with the space bridges and crystal palaces, the epic heroics®, and the barely fleshed out romance (though, does Natalie Portman have to be in every movie this year?!?). But it was dragged out too darn long. Worse, it wasn't funny enough. Yeah, there were a few good laughs here and there, but Thor is begging to be camped up! This movie needs to be a half hour shorter and five times as funny. I had hoped Kenneth Branagh could pull it off (being an old school fan of his), but sadly he seems here to maintain his long descent from greatness. The whole thing's a bit of a bore.
2 out of 5.

You are an EPIC FAIL It dropped 47% this weekend, that is hardly indication of great WOM or shocking love from the general audience, not that that is remotely an indication of actual quality, idiot.

Savage, your a moron X 10.. Most movies in their 2nd weekend drop 50% or more stooge.. The fact that a 2nd tier superhero dropped less indicates WOM is very good and if your not smart enough to get that through your thick skull, then you should probably stay over at Loyal's website where the pretentious film snobs hang..

When someone like Savage is trying to school me into believing movies don't drop 50% in their 2nd weekend and does so out of sheer ignorance AND the fact that it's merely replying to me cause it is ME, then YES, I'll blast him... Very rarely do movies drop less than 50% in their 2nd weekend no matter how good they are..
