Great movie. It's hard to go wrong when you have solid acting and directing in a film. What I love most about this film is the continuing style and intensity throughout it. It does not falter even once. For this story, it makes for a well executed film. Tom Cruise is great here, because he's a character, not "Tom Cruise acting". And Foxx was superb too. I wouldn't have complained if he had won the Oscar for this performance too. He really nailed it, in my opinion.

Very enjoyable movie.
Cruise is alway's more interesting when he play's a bad guy. The final act is a bit silly when he goes all Terminator but otherwise no complaints. Brilliant soundtrack as well.

Yeah, it's even more ridiculous when Foxx goes away at the end unscathed while firing point blank range through 2 pieces of glass at Cruise who manages to get plugged and goes down.. It's the only scene in the movie I can't quite shake, but the movie has grown on me..

A+-Number 4 of 2004.
A deeply provocative thriller that is much more than what it seems at first glance. I'll try to post a review if I can.

Its a good thriller but I think its playing a bit too much with "I want to be very realistic but I am actually not"
First the positive:- Great...damn great visuals
- I dont know many Hitman movies so this is great to have one
- Nice acting and actually a great idea for a movie but
there is just too much coincidence. It actually feels very....very constructed. Ok its a movie....but the one great thing about Heat was that any moment it feeled like it actually exactly happen like it was showed.....not here. For me the movie just cant decide if it wants to go a "real as possible way" or a "I tell a fantasy story" one. And that destroys a lot.
Also some wierd shit like "I kill a guy in a disco in front of a dozen people all see it and the thing they do is to continue dancing".
Are you really that tough and cool in North America that you need a gunshot to panic but you stay cool when directly in front of you a professional kills a man with a neck break? WTF?...well and there a lot such things.....
But ok its a movie but I think its just trying too hard.
btw: Why does Cruise turn into Terminator at the end.????' WTF???

Enjoyed Collateral - lots of quality writing, the leads were very good, great editing, and lots of subtle humor.
The downside was the dragging 3rd quarter - loved the first half and then the last quarter, but wouldn't have missed a half hour edit inbetween. The other thing that really sucked in this, was Mark Ruffalo's acting - youch! I have never seen him where he isn't the worst actor in any movie he's been in - and here with his hair slicked back - he is real baaaaad (in the bad meaning of the word)...
4 out of 5.

This movie fell a lot since my theatrical viewing. I actually regret buying it on DVD. It's just not really interesting or involving for me. C+

 Re: Collateral
So, watched this today for the third time. Always enjoyed it, but was just reminded again, how great and awesome it is. The film is simply a great experience, so wonderfully cast, we got Berg, Ruffalo and Bardem, in perfect small roles. Cruise and Foxx knock it out of the park and together with the excellent style and score of Mann this film is such a treat. I've been thinking about giving it just an A now, because it didn't wow me as in when I see a great film for the first time. Then again I just can't think of anything wrong with it, and already look forward to seeing this again a next time. It's undeniable that this belongs to a short list of the best films ever for em. Mann is freaking brilliant, and even though I really liked Blackhat, the last film I saw of him, it's a really big drop-off from this masterpiece.

 Re: Collateral
This is a really awesome film. I'd even call it a modern classic and it's sad that Mann hasn't made anything remotely as good since. I actually don't mind PE or MV, but they were nothing special and I couldn't even finish Blackhat.

 Re: Collateral
Mann has been on a downward spiral, but his films are still very, very good. It's just hard to keep up the level of Heat and Collateral. Miami Vice is an awesome film. Public Enemies is also very good. Blackhat, hmm, yes, that wasn't as memorable, but still entertaining. He just doesn't make bad films.

 Re: Collateral
I gave this, the best film of 2004, another watch, it remains as great as it is. And yeah, it sounds cliche, but they just don't make films like this anymore. Cruise is great, not sure what is his best performance, but this is up there and at least it's the best film he's in. Foxx simply elevates this too, a career best performance I think and actually, considering this at the top of his filmography and then everything else he did, I feel I mostly like his films more than Denzel's. Then the rest of the cast is so effective too, also Pinkett-Smith is simply very likeable. Technically the film is perfect, it's a sublime experience from start to finish.

 Re: Collateral
Still a great one by numbers movie. I think I thought mark ruffalo was super Latino for like a decade because of this.

Love love love this film. Probably my favourite Mann film and likely Top 3 of 2004.
