I've also never watched it, but I know the twist so it's pointless to bother.

The film is so much more than the ending. But seeing the ending executed is a real treat as well. A truly great moment in film, and the ending only works more on repeat viewings thanks to a lot of little moments. As is the famous line up in the beginning, and the film is just really well made and entertaining. Stephen Baldwin as the Baldwin with the most potential is a distant memory though.

Yeah I may be most shocked at Stephen Baldwin. What the heck happened?

Bio Dome

Stephen has said in interviews that Alec told him if he did that movie, his career would be fucked for life. Byrne, Pollack, and Palminteri are all really great as well, and of course Spacey. Del Torro is funny. If you check out the DVD there are some really great behind the scene moments where a lot of improv was in play and Del Torro never told anyone about his voice.

***** / ***** (A)

Yes it still holds up. Even knowing the twist doesn't spoil it at all. It's just too fun watching this bullshitter doing his magic.

The Usual Suspects

This film obviously relies very heavily on the reveal at the end. As I'm seeing this in 2018, I knew what that was before I started watching, so my opinion of The Usual Suspects isn't as favourable as most. I'd never seen it before, but now I have and I am still glad I have because everyone seems to think it's a classic. It's actually quite a messy story until the final 30 minutes. Lots of names that don't really latch on to the memory until the second half. Not a very exciting plot, again, until the final 30. There are no memorable scenes or characters besides at the end. It's just a lot of uninteresting talk about very uninteresting details with a bunch of uninteresting actors. Kevin Spacey and Benicio Del Toro are fine (though their characters are a bit lame), Stephen Baldwin is meh, and Kevin Pollak and Gabriel Byrne I've never been fond of. I like the line about the devil's greatest trick, but I didn't need to watch the entire film to know about it.

C+

Post Re: The Usual Suspects
When I was younger, my brother watched it while I was also in the room. I caught enough to have an opinion, but was too young to care for it, and over the years I started to feel like I hadn't really seen it properly to the extent where watching it two days ago felt like the first time I'd watched it. I watched a lot of films when I was younger that fall into this weird area, such as Annie Hall (though I remember loving that) and The Godfather Part III (hated it).
