BJs Grade:
D
I was pretty much forced to view this garbage and as expected its a dull and disgusting rip off of the first two films. Felt longer than the other two and was so bland i nearly went to sleep.

It's very funny. Sure, it's not as fun as the first two. But I still laughed throughout the film. I have a great time.

Ok, I lied
It's actually not so funny. Absolutely, far worse than the first two. I laughed five times throughout the film (and none of those five times is laugh-out-loud moment). I was pretty much bored.
You may think, I'm Pixar fan, I'm biased..
Well, first, I did like Shrek (A-) and Shrek 2 (B+). Second, I gave Over the Hedge the same grade I gave to Cars (B+). But the latest entry of Shrek's franchise is, honestly, pretty horrible. It did feature few good moments (and by few, I meant two or three which included Arty's speech). It's not dreadful, it has few laughs, few but still there, right?. But there's really nothing else to talk about. The characters aren't funny. Therefore, it was boring to watch them on screen, not even 'Puss'. The new comers, though interesting, but play-off so bland and lame.
Fact; all sequels were made, mainly and mostly, for more money. But they also offer something worthwhile. Shrek 3 comes with the 'let's make more money' idea and, sadly, nothing else (except for interesting concept -villain's side-, great message which aren't what make movie worked).

 Re: Shrek 3
Even worse than the second one. I haven't laughed once and the story sucked. Maybe the worst animated movie I've ever seen. And like others said, it felt like a 3 hour movie. D-

 Re: Shrek 3
I liked it a little more than the second one. Still doesn't compare to the original though. Although, there were very few "funny" moments. Decreased from Shrek 2 somehow. And it NEEDS those moments!
Shrek - B+ Shrek 2 - C+ Shrek the Third - B-

 Re: Shrek 3
I very much enjoyed the first two films, so even though this film did nothing wrong, it was such a disappointment because it didn't do anything right either.

It was better than I expected going in. I still haven't seen Shrek 2 and while I liked the first Shrek (I think I gave it a B), I still think that it's one of the most overrated animated flicks ever and I just couldn't get the hype and the success of the franchise.
So, I was dragged into this...and came out liking it somewhat. There are some really really funny parts in this and I still love their way of poking fun at Disney and re-using tons of well-known fairly tale characters. The jokes mostly work and I must say the character of Artie actually didn't bother me...
Now the part of the film that really brought the whole thing down were pretty much all the scenes with Merlin. What a terrible unfunny portion of the film with such a botched character. It almost put me to sleep. Thank God, the movie picked up again at the end at least.
By the way....this must be the only really "big" movie that got not a single A-grade vote in the poll at WOKJ!

4/10 -> D
Lousy attempt at making Shrek work again. The only thing I liked were the party Snow White, Cinderella and her stepsister, Sleeping Beauty... They stole the show with their rants. THEY should have a spin off named Hex and the City...

 Re: Shrek 3
I was also disappointed with this one. I loved both the original Shrek and Shrek 2, but this didn't even quite live up to the lowered expectations I had. It had its moments, no doubt. The supporting characters were reliable as ever, the Shrek/Arthur journey reminded me somewhat of the Shrek/Fiona journey of the first film, and the high school scene had the kind of clever humor I've come to expect from this franchise. But the story is just too weak to fully ignore. The "family" elements of the movie get really old really fast, Prince Charming is recycled as a villain, the climax is incredibly lazy (seriously, a "self-image" speech?), and it just doesn't have the heart or charm of its predecessors. It's 90 minutes of purely disposable entertainment, which is pretty disappointing after how fantastic the first two films were.
Grade: B- (and I'm being pretty lenient here)
And for reference, my grades for the other two are as follows: Shrek: A Shrek 2: A-

As soon as the song Live and Let Die played, I was immediately taken out of the movie. Unlike the previous two films, I just couldn't care what happened to these characters. I'll give the film credit for it's animation, which is just as impressive if not more impressiven than the previous films, and the film made me laugh on occasion. But it's just not as good, clever or as funny as the previous two.
Not taking into account Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz's horrible voicework...

Re-watching this, it really feels like a hollow souless movie, even more so than your average blockbuster.

 Re: Shrek the Third
Not nearly as good as the first two, but not the massive drop in quality reviews would suggest. The jokes don't hit here quite as well with the exception of the kick-ass princesses. The story is good until they meet Arthur, who has to be one of the most annoying animated character ever. The movie would have been much more satisfying as a whole if Shrek had become king. But this is still a film that sits well on the shelf next to the first two.
