Clerks II was decent, but nowhere near what I was expecting. It had a couple really good laughs, but it had too much dead time in between. The romance between Rosario and Dante was pretty trite and standard romance flick-ish. Also, I loved the first movie because I thought Smith nailed the life of a Clerk... or at least there were a lot of moments where I said... "that happened to me". This one didn't have that feel at all.

As a big fan of Kevin Smith, I'd say this one was a disappointment, but that doesn't mean I disliked it. I'd give it a B. The LOTR stuff earned it a B alone.

As for Smith's films, here's how I see them:

#1. J&SBSB
#2. Clerks
#3. Dogma
#4. Jersey Girl
#5. Clerks II
#6. Chasing Amy
#7. Mallrats

I've seen parts of Jay & Silent Bob and Dogma, but this is actually, believe it or not, the first Kevin Smith film I've sat all the way through.

Can't say I'm too impressed, either.

I think I've heard Smith's direction many times referred to as "sloppy," and I think that's a perfect word for it, at least what I got from this film. This isn't flowing, joke-a-second humor; it just kind of flounders. I think that works for some people, but it doesn't for me.

Acting? Pretty bad. More so from the guy who plays Dante, less so for Randal, who's passable. Rosario Dawson, though, does rock. But she's matched by no one.

I did have a few good laughs, but those were few and far between. And interspersed between scenes with Jay & Silent Bob, who really just...aren't...funny.

I don't know. Despite the ending that I actually found kind of touching, I was just sort of annoyed by it all.

C+

I quite enjoyed this I have to say. Rosario Dawson is a breath of fresh air and there a few great scenes - pussy troll, LOTR vs Star Wars, prison etc. I'd have to give it a solid B+

Now what I found freaky is that I paused the scene when Dawson is looking at the wedding invite and the wedding date is set at 2pm Saturday January 06 2007. I looked up at the clock and I swear it was 2.05pm January 06 2007 as I watched that scene. Absolutely FREAKY!!

A worthy sequel to the original, which doesn't say much. Hilarious throughout, but too disgusting at times and too over-the-top at others. The acting was alright, but the romance didn't ring true and the musical numbers was out of place. The scene in the jail cell, however, was pitch perfect. Still, not that great a movie.

I wouldn't have expected a bad grade for a bad movie to be shocking, so that was a nice surprise.

Hmm....Mr. X....there's only one "F" grade above, so I think you may be pulling my leg.

We just have completely different tastes and appreciation in film. I absolutely hate some of the films you love and visa versa.

WOW! What a huge surprise and a return to form by Kevin Smith. With his first truly good film since Dogma, Smith delivered the best comedy of last year (and that includes Borat too!). It's vulgar, outrageous, sick...and oh so hilarious all throughout. I still haven't seen the first Clerks, but now I'm definitely more motivated than ever to check it out. The donkey scene at the end and the "Pillowpants" exchange had me in stitches like no other film in years. And on top of all that, there is actually a good story of friendship buried in there.

The chemistry between Brian O'Halloran and Jeff Anderson is great. Rosario Dawson did a good job too. Jay and Silent Bob were their usual great self again (they should just always remain supporting characters!). Trevor Fehrman was great too.

On the whole, a very well-done comedy that doesn't just offer a mere couple of laughs, but is a real riot from start to finish. Some of the stuff between Rosario Dawnson and Brian O'Halloran could have been spared, but it's still a truly great film.

I'm still trying to figure out how Clerks 2 ended up my top film of last year... If you told me that at the start of 2006, I would've said you're fucking nuts. :zonks: But it is. Over time it's landed as one of my favorite rewatchable films, it's probably one of my top comedies overall now.

I'm crazy.

Watched this wonderful little movie last night. It's been four or five years since I have (it is kind of insane it's even been out that long, I remember seeing it in theaters like it was yesterday and it's 8 years old? What?) and it is still as great as ever. One of my favorites and one of Smith's best movies.

Over time this has become one of my all-time favorite comedies and the go-to comedy for movie nights with friends.
