This is the first and last time that I wander into this thread, looking throughout reviews.

I feel stupid for liking it.

I finally watched it today.

It was good. What I liked most about it was that the filmmakers resisted the urge to reinvent it. They didnt cast a girl as Damien, or change major plot points. They took what worked in the original and updated it with a more interesting cast and improved visuals.

Basically the exact same as the original, with updated visuals and worse acting. Save for a couple of nightmare scenes, every scene was shot-for-shot from the original, which makes it pretty boring to watch. The visuals were cool, and the death scenes were well-executed (pun intended), but the acting - especially Julia Stiles - was pretty bad. The kid was pretty terrible, and everyone else just looked bored. The opening scene, with the clues to Damien's birth being real-life disasters, was the only inspired bit in the whole film. It's not a terrible film, but not a very good one either.

B-, I hated the original, yet for some reason didn't mind this one.

Not the best horror movie but it was enjoyable...The nightmare scenes were great i jumped quite a few times. The effect the used when Katherine falls from the balcony was just hidious.
