 Re: Independence Day: Resurgence
I thought they did end up destroying it again. But it was pretty bleh when it happened. None of the destruction outside of the moon base was that interesting. Hell I don't think a single sequence here even was close to even the secondary "Smith chase" scene in the first. And the comic relief is awful. Whoever that Floyd guy was terrible. It's like they tried to do what Jake Johnson actually did well in JW, and this guy was just awful in every scene.

That's faint praise, like I prefer really shitty cereal over the store brand cereal version of it.

As was Maika Monroe, Jeff Golfblum, Liam Hemsworth, Vivica Fox, Brent Spiner, Bill Pullman, Angelababy, and Jessie Usher. And what the fuck was Charlotte Gainsbourg doing in the film?! This film is such a fucking joke.

 Re: Independence Day: Resurgence
Also what happened to JG's wife from the first? They reconciled in the end. She hasn't done anything. They don't even make a reference to it.
Also creepy CGI Robert Loggia cameo?
I've never seen a film that could have had potential make so many bad decisions.

But at the same time I don't think it was that bad. It has some really great special effects and half the time the humor and the drama did hit the right mark, just unfortunate for the other half.

Ha. I saw it on Saturday in China, Bradley sweetheart, which is Friday night in the US, and I hated it. Not to mention that I don't check numbers until Monday morning, and you should know that I am one of the least groupthink-y people on these boards. So your calm your bullshit.

WTF? Who are you, the reincarnation of Bradley Witherberry? Get outta here with that "groupthink" hand-wringing. This movie is awful and I gladly stand by that opinion.

 Re: Independence Day: Resurgence
This was fucking atrocious. From the awful acting to the boring, monotone action sequences it was just an all around misfire IMO. The only good thing I can say about it is it's nice seeing Goldblum in a blockbuster again, even though he's definitely playing a parody of himself and not his character from the first movie. Also, wtf was up with all the ridiculous, cringe worthy Chinese pandering and that really bizarre Robert Loggia cameo ?

 Re: Independence Day: Resurgence
I honestly have no idea why they did it. I think the worst thing is I have a much better sequel just thinking of it off the top of my head, and after 11 writers they came up with this.

 Re: Independence Day: Resurgence
The script really is bad, and a lot of that has to do with that I think they had too many ideas. For sure the first sequel script couldn't have a Female Chinese pilot, and Chinese Moon Commander. But once they put that in there, they had to re-write a whole lot of other stuff again. I do like how they wrote in all the old characters, but we really needed more Goldblum. He should have been the star really, and not Hemsworth or Smith's son. I have a feeling they actually never even really wanted Goldblum, but as part of some kind of fan service kept him in anyway. The most useless part of the film for me, was the kids driving in the station wagon story. I liked all of the Goldblum dad's inclusions, but those kids were so unnecessary. Such lack of creativity. The school bus on the other hand I liked again.

 Re: Independence Day: Resurgence
The script is awful, but it is in-keeping with the first. The fact that two days after the arrival of the aliens they are defeated goes a long way to minimalising them as a threat and lowering the magnitude of the attack. And then Goldblum says something like "I don't think we could survive a third attack". Considering whenever these aliens come here they are defeated quick-sharp, I'd have to disagree with Goldblum.

 Re: Independence Day: Resurgence
This might be the first blockbuster I have ever given an F too. I mean when a movie makes you feel depressed by the shear amount of stupid, offensive, nonsensical shit thrown in it you can't really be forgiving. This is way beyond inept/lazy film making IMO as it was such an unpleasant, grueling experience to sit through.

Considering the votes it received in the poll at the top so far, we can say it's about average. I wonder who gave it an A though.

 Re: Independence Day: Resurgence
It's a pretty bad movie that's somewhat entertaining. The script is terrible. Nearly all attempts at humor are cringe-inducingly bad. It's all really cheesy. But like I said, it wasn't super boring so that's a plus. I'd give it a C-.
