 Re: Me Before You
I loved this movie. It was near perfect until the end with then it in Paris. I just don't approve of a movie basically telling quadriplegics to kill themselves rather than be a burden on the world. The film is fully engaging, and the likability of the leads makes the love story believable. But while I knew he was going to kill himself the film was going to who it in such a positive light. As a film I loved it, but I wholeheartedly disagree with its message. I was ready to give this movie an A up until that last stupid scene. So,
A-?
It's amazing how the last scene of a film can really change your view of it.

 Re: Me Before You
I don't think it's message was to go off and kill yourself if you feel like you have nothing. He obviously had SOMETHING with his relationship, he just felt like he lived and saw everything he wanted to see in his life. I don't think the movie took a stance either way if this was a good decision or something wrong, it was simply how the character felt.

 Re: Me Before You
I think him sending her to Paris, giving her his money and telling her to liver her life unburdened by him is pretty much saying if you are like Will, you are a burden on everyone and you should kill yourself. I do think he has the right to kill him self, but I still think it's wrong to put any sort of positive spin on suicide. An appropriate ending would have been Lou and his family crying their eyes out and never getting over it. The way it is, paralyzed people who may have found happiness could be led to question their lives. This film really needed to be tested as a tragedy. Louisa should not have taken any of his money. That's just literally shitting on his memory, I think
Really my grade would be
First hour and 40 minutes A
Last 10 minutes F
I applaud its realism, but there is no way this film doesn't take a positive stance on suicide.

 Re: Me Before You
It is not a positive spin on suicide. It is about self-determination.

 Re: Me Before You
I've come to the conclusion that this isn't even a film; its pushing someone's pro euthanasia agenda. It disgusts me to even think of this movie. It's just propaganda.
F--------------------
One of the worst movies ever made. I just hate it so freaking much I can't put it into words.
I'm actually considering writing about why this movie is a piece of shit for two of my courses.
Thinking about this movie makes me want to go kill myself in Switzerland.

Is zwackerm having a nervous breakdown?
The first hour and 40 minutes are an A, and the last 10 minutes are an F------- and make it one of the worst movies ever made and want to kill himself?
Sure, Jan. I'm surprised you're not voting for Trump with this kind of insane jump in thinking.

 Re: Me Before You
It's just the awfulness of the ending has stayed in my head ever since I watched it. It's honestly really bothersome. I've never watched a film with such a problematic message before. My sister has cerebral palsy and she and I discussed this film and she said it made her feel shitty, even though she has been able to lead a relatively happy and meaningful life.
And I don't want to kill myself, that was meant to be ironic hyperbole.

 Re: Me Before You
So you loved the movie.
You do realize that not every situation for a handicapped person is the same, right? Just because two gay people fall in love in a film doesn't mean that all people are going to want to be gay.

 Re: Me Before You
I found this pretty touching, it's quite humorous too and overall it just come away being very decent. Both Clarke and Claflin are perfectly cast, while for a film that's based on a real story, it feels too idyllic and manufactured in many ways, it's the acting of both which comes across very convincingly and it's really quite moving for the most part. Very solid drama/romance.
