 Re: Kingsman: The Secret Service
So I enjoyed this quite a bit. It's funny and violent and stylish and sexy. Vaughn is already a pro at turning these comic book adaptations to fun and breezy rides. No time for brooding here!
However that works against it in one instance. I feel like it had way too much fun with the church massacre. Sure they were racist assholes, yet it was like laughing at a terrorist attack. That rubbed me the wrong way. All the other over top top things, such as the mushroom cloud heads, worked for me though.

I think you took the church scene the wrong way. It wasn't really a... fun... scene.

 Re: Kingsman: The Secret Service
How much does the studio regret letting them kill Colin Firth right now? The sequel should do fine regardless, but man, that could've been the type of iconic character that gets you to four or five films, with each of them increasing their global grosses. I'd fully support a twin brother angle.

Don't father figures always die in these movies though? I was 99% sure he would die.

The way he died? Maybe. But the mentor dies is the oldest troupe in the book.

Kingsman: The Secret ServiceWhat a blast! This crazy spin on the James Bond super-spy idea is probably the most fun you'll have in the cinema this year. It's 2015's answer to Guardians of the Galaxy. It's not beautiful or even particularly smart, but it throws up exactly what you don't expect to happen (McDonald's for dinner, Firth dying, parachutes aplenty etc.), which really keeps this film buzzing along. The weak link is the young, world-is-against-me, chav-type character; Eggsy. While I appreciate that being a Kingsman is not necessarily where you were educated or what you look like, I just found the young thuggish type a problem throughout, from his annoying appearance to his urbanite language. But apart from that, the film was super cool, fast-paced, funny, and still upheld a certain level of class. Colin Firth's air of respectability complements Sam Jackson's hip-hop vibes, and really turns the Bond super-villain convention on its head. The henchwoman was pretty fantastic, and the deaths she amounts are glamorously violent. The ending is pretty great (the Swedish princess ending), but it is somewhat soured with a second ending which duplicates Firth's earlier [and fantastic] pub brawl. B+Note: The church scene was cut from the Chinese version.

 Re: Kingsman: The Secret Service
This was awesome and great, but not perfect. Definitely a surprise for me, as I really wasn't into it after seeing the trailer. The movie follows a lot of generic-isms, but also stands out with it's R-rating, and willingness to do things differently. While not liking all of the script, I encourage this type of film that has an edge to it. I also doubt a bit how memorable the movie will prove to be.
B+

Funny how this has like the same score as AOU on RT, but everyone here loves this and only like 2 or 3 people loved AOU.

Americans, critics and audiences, consist of a lot of nerds who grew up with comics.
I don't know anything about comics so what may be good for fanboys means nothing. Doesn't make it a good movie.

This was seriously amazing. LOVED it. Such a f*cking blast. Loved that church scene. Newcomer Taron Egerton is extremely charismatic. We will definitely be seeing more of him.
Probably the most entertaining movie I've seen this year. There needs to be sequels.

 Re: Kingsman: The Secret Service
This movie was almost too much for me, lol. It was like someone took The Red Wedding from Game of Thrones and said "Let's try something like that, but for the whole length of a movie." It was so ridiculously violent, I could not even truly process how devastating it should have been to watch so many innocents die. That said, the movie is very fun, and the cast and characters for once are very game, the most of which is Samuel L. Jackson as Valentine, who is actually a really great memorable villain in every way. The lead kid was capable (his mom was hot too), and really there were no weak spots in the performances. It certainly left an impact on me, which is more than I can say for pretty much any movie. A sequel would be great.

Also, the score was really bad. It all sounded ripped from X-Men and How to Train Your Dragon.
