I still ♥ this film. Whenever I think of Indy, I think of this one. Raiders is probably my least fav of the trilogy.

Re: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
It's too dark and has very annoying characters. However, I was a bit harsh in saying I didn't enjoy it at all. It's different than the other Indy movies and I have to accept that. My original grade stands though.

Re: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
I think it's probably the most entertaining (love the first, while the second might take itself too seriously - as good as it is). This one is constant thrills, situational comedy, over-the-top nonsense. It's definitely the most fun to watch.

Re: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
It's not too dark, I enjoy its twisted side a lot. It's Mrs. Spielberg screeching her way through the film with nothing better to do and a clunky first half that hurt this. I guess I can understand people that prefer it, but I still greatly prefer the original. I want to see the third one again though.

Re: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
I think its too hard to prefer one, I mean there all different and are fantastic in what they try to achieve. 2 was trying to be darker, more thrilling, and completely different from the original. How many sequels can claim that, most usually just try and rehash. I mean, Voodoo, slave children, sacrifice, and firey lava pits. And a friggin musical number. Though, "Too Much to Drink Dr. Jones" Might be my favorite line in the entire trilogy. Just the way its read and the fact that Indy counters by throwing a flaming machete Kabob into a guys chest!!! Cinematic Magic at its finest. Thrills, humor, action, and darkness says that moment right to itself.
though its hardly that dark today, those that supposedly hate it need to catch it again soon. I dont see how 3 is loosing flavor though. Like its the cool thing to say now, 3 was just as amazing as the first two.

I caught it again when I bought the indiana jones trilogy on DVD. I did not remember it being so bad. It's putrid, really. Maybe if Kate Kapshaw wasn't the love interest I would have liked it more. I don't want to hear someone screeching in my ears for 2 hours straight, sorry, that just aint my idea of entertainment.

Re: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Actually both The Empire Strikes Back and Dead Man's Chest are much darker than their originals and both (Empire more than Chest) try to expand the universe of their story and end in unconventional ways.

Re: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Its definitely the weakest one for me Not a bad thing considering its Indy - but nothing to be proud of either. To be fair its been a while since Ive seen it and only caught a bit of it recently. Still Last Crusade is my favourite by far.

Re: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
My least favorite of the 3 films, although i like it just slightly less than Raiders and Last Crusade. There's less of a plot, but the non-stop action is awesome. This movie is one of the best thrill rides ever made. It's a heck of a lot of fun.

Saw the triLogy for the first time this week. This is way more fun than Raiders, IMO though Last Crusade was better. The franchise is kind of overrated as a whoLe for me, but I'm sure to see the fourth one.

Re: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
I actually just saw this one for the first time last night. I've already seen Raiders of the Lost Ark (which I loved), but am catching up with the rest of the series before the fourth installment. Anyways, I thought it was a blast. Very underrated and actually on par with the first film for me. It was incredibly thrilling and entertaining throughout, and the last hour was pretty fantastic. I'm excited to watch Last Crusade now. A-

Re: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
The action scenes were great, and the first 20 minutes or so are some of the best ever in a film, but overall it is a disappointment to me, and I consider Raiders perhaps the best film ever made. It's the silly plotline that bugs me -- instead of kidnapping big, strong men to do our mining, let's use underfed young kids! I also didn't like the abandonment of characters established in Raiders and the addition of the cute kid sidekick.
Maybe it just felt too much like a Chris Columbus kid's film to me.

Re: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
the weakest one, yes, but still a magnificently shot and endlessly fun ride. However, I feel like this one was a bit too caught up in the "Indy fad," even though it was a dark film, and Spielberg felt like the franchise was impenetrable after one installment. I liked The Last Crusade a bit more, because it returned to the unassuming nature of the first film. But Raiders will always remain the masterpiece of the bunch.

Re: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
My second favorite IJ film so far (Last Crusade being #1). It's just A LOT of fun with some of the best action in the whole trilogy. I agree to a certain degree that Capshaw is annoying but I thought the boy wasn't that bad at all and Ford is just brilliant in his trademark role.

Re: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
I saw the film last night (Raiders a couple of nights ago, Crusade after watching this) and it's much better than I remember it being and even then I thought it was a great film. Looking back on it, although the tone of the second half is dark and the darkest of the series, it's not as dark as I remember it once being. Maybe that's just because I'm a little older now, but it's tame. I don't think it's quite as dark and as offputting as everyone makes it out to be. I think Spielberg and Lucas are actually holding back a little here. They at least know the limit though because they still manage to have fun within the the last hour of the film. Watching Indy under the spell is one of the best moments in the series. And the final chase is a lot of fun.
So, yeah. This is a lot better than I remember it being. I would still say it's my least favorite in the series but the gap is much closer than it was just a couple of nights ago.

Re: Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
It's all good and fun. The racism seems so obvious that I found it satirical in nature, so I didn't have much of a problem with it. But yeah....it's so absurd, there's no way anything like it would work today (unless it involves giant, flying, talking robots from space?). The dialogue could've been better, and the tone was a little bit confused between attempts at wit and over-the-top-ness.
Chilled monkey brains!
Haha...and the crocodile scenes are soooooooooo poorly done...the more I think about it this is more a camp classic than anything else. I would suspect most of the poor reviews are just from those who can't grasp that concept.

As I often say when someone says something like this. Just because that was the point of the movie doesn't mean I have to like it. (if that was indeed the point)

I know just because the action scenes looks so fake does not mean it cannot be fun.
You can clearly tell that the boats in ben-hur are fake small models but the scene is still lots of fun.

This one is thrilling, but not an enjoyable watch. I wouldn't pop it in nearly as easily as Raiders or Crusade. The cult stuff is just horrifying in the worst way.
