By far better than the original. Dr. Ork actually was a convincing villain, unlike the Green Goblin. Toby still drags down the movie because he reminds me of Dawson's Creek.

Overall: B+

A+/A

I saw this movie again tonight, and I realize I'd forgotten how fantastic it is. The action scenes, the epic shots of Spider-man, the way the movie is filmed, the humor, the villian, the CGI, the plot, now this is a superhero movie.

I'm all confused now heh, I don't know which is my favorite superhero movie of all time. X2, Spider-man 2, X3, Superman II, ahhhh. This genre sure has had it's flourish of brilliance though.

This is a franchise that the WB needs to sit back and take a good long look at and why it's just so damn good.. MARVEL rules over DC anyday..

I love this movie and it firmly stands among my all-time favorites, but I still prefer the original movie more. Maybe that's because I waited to see Spider-Man on the big screen for so long and it really delivered. This one went more in depth with the characters, but I also felt that it dragged a little in some spots and that the original had actually more exciting action than this one (save for the train scene). It's still an awesome film and the 4th best comic book adaptation ever (behind Spider-Man and the two first X-Men films). The actors fit their roles perfectly and Alfred Molina makes one great Doc Ock. He's a better villain than Dafoe's Green Goblin in the first one. I wish they'd have involved him in more crazy action setpieces.

I give it a B/B+...I enjoyed the first one much more, and i did not like the ending...The F/x were great as usual, but this one just did hit me like the other one which i would give an A...Spiderman 3 will beat both of these togethor though...

Spider Man 2: Twice as Good as Original!

Yup, it's true - SM2 is honestly twice as good as the original!

Unfortunately, that means it's still pretty darn bad. Sure there was some sporadic fun character stuff, but just like SM1 the plotline (like Peter and Mary Jane's relationship) is an erratic tease that never really pays off. What's next? Mary Jane as Spider Girl in SM3? I'm just not buying this film series' whole take on the Spider Man mythology - the old cartoon series was miles better than this! This is just another ladle full of Hollywood product. Belly up to the trough! Shame on you, Sam Raimi - you better be saving up your Spider Man dough to be making another real movie down the road some day...

2 out of 5.

Much more mature than the first one, leading to a more interesting story and a better film overall. The drama surrounding Spider-Man is more fleshed out in this one, and the problems are more believable. Instead of just a cartoony action film, like the first one, this is a comic book film with a more compelling story and realistic characters, not to mention better action and a superior villain - though one not seen nearly enough. Some of the romance still needs work, though, and there are long stretches where nothing happens, scenes that would have been better served by including the villain and advancing the main plot. Still, this is an improvement over the first film, and a great movie.

Though the main plot of the movie involves Spider-Man calling it quits, there are far too many scenes where he listens to long speeches from various characters swaying him one way or another. Although at least one of those is useful, and the dialogue is better written than in the original, far too much time is spent on scenes like this. Unfortunately, it only takes time away from the villain, Doc Ock, who is much more intriguing and better realized than the Green Goblin from the first film. There are also far too many scenes between Peter and MJ, and since they all seem to dissolve into "I love you, I love you not", some of then could have been easily done away with. Indeed, what the film is most lacking in is action, which is too bad, because it's fantastic when it shows up. Though the special effects still need some work, it's a vast improvement, and the action is both exhilirating and central to the plot.

Another improvement over the first film would be in the acting department. Tobey Maguire managed to lose some of his goofiness, although it still pops up periodically, and he's more than able in serious dramatic scenes; Kirsten Dunst is still not a good actress, but she's better, and can at least attempt some serious scenes; James Franco gives pretty much a one-note performance, as an angry, brooding villain-to-be; and J.K. Simmons is as hilarious as he was the first time around. But the real stand out this time around is Alfred Molina as Doc Ock - not over-the-top like Willem Dafoe in the first one, but simultaneously evil and pitiable. The only thing disappointing about his performance is that there isn't more of it - one of the main problems with the movie. The mechanical arms are perfectly realized, and the fight scenes between him and Spidey are spectacular. His character is so interesting that it is fitting, then, when he ultimately redeems himself and saves the day, instead of Spidey.

Overall, an improvement over the first film, but still not a perfect film. It is still one of the top comic book films, but it spends far too much time on a poorly told romance and not enough on a intriguing villain. Still, the story is interesting, the action is fantastic, and the characters are believable. A nice lead in to the final (?) chapter in the trilogy.

While I liked the first film a bit more, this is still a magnificent achievement and a worthy sequel. Along with the first, it's the best superhero movie ever ;)

I watched this last night for the first time since I saw it in the theater what, three years ago? I kinda hated it. As I remembered, everything was just so dour and depressing. And by the end, I was ready to scream if anyone whipped out another poorly written, tearful monologue. Why anyone would want to spend time with any of these people is beyond me...they're such a drag.

Have some fucking fun, Spider Man!

The best super hero movie ever made... it is not. It's not even as good as the first Spider-Man.

The villain's are essentially the same, two scientists' science projects gone wrroooongg! Except Green Goblin was a much more interesting character, goofy costume aside.

Then add in Kirsten Dunst running down the street in a wedding dress. Or pretty much just add Kirsten Dunst in any scene. She's awful.

There are some OK moments, like when stopping the train, but not enough to redeem the movie.

as far as emotional, character-driven superhero films go, I'm not sure we'll get one better than this. "The Dark Knight" might turn out better, but that would be because of being so awesome and dark and thrilling, but I'll never feel at all as close to Bruce Wayne as this film made me feel to Peter Parker. Maguire gave a solid performance, as did the rest of the cast, but Raimi was the one who struck gold here, working with a surprisingly great script and having a perfect balance between drama and comedy, romance and straight-faced talk, good and evil, confidence and lack of it, and everything else. This really was fantastic. No matter what happens with the rest of the franchise, it will always have "Spider-man 2"

X2 is better and the film is better then the original batman or superman. I don't know, those two films are nowhere near as old as some other great films I really love, but they just look terribly outdated now, especially Superman.

Anyways it was an improvement over the first with a better story, however it gets rather boring the 2nd time you watch it but it is still one of the better comic book films.

It is a B+...

(Now, I think I will receive feedback for Superman) :funny:

Meh, its amushing and a decent time waster. Otherwise its cliched and lazy, and Raimi can do far better.

Visually amazing, with great action scenes but the most overated comic book movie, imo. B+. X2 still reigns the best.

To boring and soap opera ish...Ock is under used; the train saves what was otherwise an extremely dull film, and even thats too short.

Really good sequel. Raimi did a great job and Doc Ock is one of the best superhero villains ever. The action/effects are just amazing, the story is solid and the acting good (especially from Molina), but above all Spider-Man 2 is just so so entertaining. Better than the first, and miles ahead of Spider-Man 3.

Spider-Man 2 stands not only as the top entry of its franchise, but also as one of the very best films to come out of the superhero genre. The balance between action and story is perfect. The visual effects and showdowns don't disappoint, especially the showstopping train scene. But what takes the movie to an entirely different level of quality is the story behind the action. Tobey Maguire gives one of the best performances of his career as Peter Parker, giving us a conflicted hero we can connect with in ways arguably even greater than any other superhero yet to arrive on the screen. The supporting players are all at the tops of their games, but the standout is Alfred Molina, whose gift of tender humanity to the role of Dr. Octavius makes his transformation into the villainous Doc Ock all the more emotionally involving. It's entertainment at its most superb. A
