As far as setting the characters up for sequels, how does it do? A potential Justice League?

What I meant was more of, could these characters fit in the current world of Batman? Did they ground it enough?

I think that surprise was an element that made me appreciate BB more than I probably would of. Than I think how awesome TDK was even with the hype. Though conversely I think TDKR was hurt by the hype.

 Re: Man of Steel
Easy A+, word of mouth is going to be off the hook.
The flashbacks are kind of paced oddly. The film likely would have benefited from simply being shown in chronological order, but that said - the pacing is never off.
This is clearly a Nolan brothers film, though - the films chugs along with relentless steam. It's a jaw dropper for sure.
A casual movie goers wandering into this movie is going to be left with their jaws dropped.
The die hard Nolaners who have come to expect some nifty form of social commentary in the film are going to left disappointed, but as a whole, the film is fucking awesome. It is quite how I woudl envision a JJ ABRAMS superman film to be.

Except Abrams would have injected some humor into it as would have Chris Nolan.

Rest assured, I am certain that unlike BB/TDK/TDKR this film won't get far during WOKJ's movie awards.
It will please crowds, though, don't get me wrong. The Transformers films pleased crowds too.

I just read that a Wayne Enterprises logo appears in the film, but I didn't catch it and neither did the two colleagues next to me.

 Re: Man of Steel
i missed the wayne logo as well. Lexcorp was very obvious, though. I would have liked more humor too, but it was still awesome anyway. The final fight though is just...*dies* my oh my, Warner Brothers is going to make a fortune with this thing. This is one of those films which KILLS it with audiences but the more mature online crowd (the ones who love Nolan) will feel slightly too good for the film. The amount of gifs this will eventually have on tumbler from all the facial acting is also hilarious. I dont think its a stretch at all to say it is just as good as Batman Begins while being more exciting. CosterLane and young clarks scene are all PURE MOVIE MAGIC! Jonathan Kent choosing to die rather than have Clark use his powers and save him (thus exposing himself to the world) totally sold the films emotional angle. Were def. tears at that point. Lane and Costner are both PERFECT here.

Within five minutes Russell Crowe has hopped onto a giant grasshopper and is dodging laser beam explosions. A more Animated Series-like Batman fits here, but Nolan's doesn't.

Are you saying this is the same quality as the Transformer movies? I am not sure I want to see the movie if it is. MOS is better than IM3 is every imaginable way. Iron Man 3's finale was one of the dumbest things Ive ever seen on film. There are ZERO 'pepper dies, gets super powers' type of retarded ideas going on here. Zod is never half as cringeworthy of Guy Pearce was. The final fight doesn't feel forced whatsoever, while iron man 3, the whole thing felt unneeded. The extremis army was sooo fucking stupid. Part of me thinks if -Nolans name wasn't on this and -the trailers were not some of the best ever assembled a lot more people would be on board the 'omg awesome' train.

I agree with you that the final fight in IM3 felt totally unneeded. It was also a confusing mess because they introduced something new without hinting it existed and it had a major impact in the movie(a long fight). IM3 was a movie that relied to much on humor as well. K that sounds promising.

 Re: Man of Steel
Half of Fishburnes lines were obviously jokes...
I left MAN OF STEEL with the same sensation I felt when I left Pirates 1, Batman Begins, Transformers, Spider-man.The movie is an experience unlike anything else, a total assault on the senses. Word of mouth is going other wordly.
I DO think the script would have read semi weak. Snyder deserves credit here as do the directors, kind of like TDKR, the characters are not written with a heluva lot of depth but excellent acting really brings them to life.

 Re: Man of Steel
but at the same time, this is NOT 'The amazing spider-man' where it felt like it needed another 20 minutes to be great. This is truly great on its own.

 Re: Man of Steel
Part of me wishes wb had REAL ball and had made this entire film a 3 picture trilogy.
1 entirely on krypton [ending with krypton going kaboom] 1 smallville/becoming the hero/lois following him 1 for the third act
Yeah, I do kind of feel that wa. Just like I felt THE DARK KNIGHT RISES - albeit already great - would have been even better as 2 films, I think one could have benefited from more screen time.
It doesnt NEED it ala AMAZING SPIDERMAN, but you can see where it could have been even ebtter.
