So you're saying Rises isn't transcendent.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Second viewing concluded. Still awesome. Think I like TDK a little better. People who liked BB more than TDK will adore this.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is great but Anne Hathaway steals the movie.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
I was completely unprepared for that, but have to concur, Hathaway is the shining highlight of the strong ensemble.
However, nothing in this film at any point, comes close to the brilliance that was Ledger as the Joker. But how could it, anyway?

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
While Ledger's performance remains a powerful achievement, I don't believe he needs to be put on -such- a pedestal, with this air of, "No one on earth could match the power of Ledger's performance as the Joker." This is just a certain Jim Morrison/Kurt Cobain romantic-death nostalgia fallacy at play.
Ledger was a dedicated and gifted actor in top form, not a supernatural being descended from on high. If Bane, Catwoman, etc. fail to top his interpretation of the Joker, then this represents a "flaw," not a cosmic inevitability, IMO.

Yeah but this "flaw" hasn't been noted in any superhero movie since TDK came out. Nobody complained about shitty villains in Marvel movies.

Yes, no one has ever negatively mentioned Iron Man 2's villains. Never ever. Everyone thought Mickey Rourke deserved an Oscar nomination for his indelible portrayal of Whiplash. Oh, the spot-on Russian accent! Besides, what do Marvel films have to do with the price of eggs in China in terms of the relationship between The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises?

Oh, the spot-on Russian accent! Besides, what do Marvel films have to do with the price of eggs in China in terms of the relationship between The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises? The comparison is because of what an impact Ledger made on The Dark Knight. None of the Marvel movies are dominated by their villains -- TDK is dominated by the Joker and Harvey Dent. I liked Bane quite a bit. He's a much different villain than the Joker and the sheer physicality works (wait until you see the sewer fight -- it's nuts). The only real trouble with Bane is his voice. Not his enunciation -- I really had no trouble understanding him -- but the fact that it sounds like it's coming from a different movie. It booms from every speaker and sounds out of place with other dialogue, like an over-correction from the MI-4 prologue. Also, the relationship between Bruce and Miranda isn't given enough weight for how much it's supposed to impact act three. And that's about it for flaws.

I'm very excited for Bane. I love Tom Hardy. Anyone who has seen Bronson (near silence falls upon the World of KJ) knows how perfect he is for the role.

I feel like Hardy is going to be over-looked due to the mask and slightly goofy voice. He has some really good acting moments, especially toward the end.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
Is it hard to understand what Bane is saying? I've had a bit of trouble understanding his dialogue in some of the ads, and then of course there's Batman himself. Will I be able to understand any of the dialogue in this movie?

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
I can't believe Nolan actually did put Robin in this film. That made me smile and some in the audience applaud. Too bad, however, that everoyne and their mother knew prior to the film's release that Cotillard would be Talia. I was honestly surprised when Neeson was revealed to be Ra's Al Ghul n Bgeins, Nolan went for the same kind of surprise he, but ultimately failed thanks to the long ongoing rumors about Cotillard's character. And damn, Hathaway was SO GOOD!

Thing is, I actually really like I just wish the relationship between Miranda and Bruce had been given more weight to justify the emotional aspect of it. That's exactly the thing: It didn't work that well on the emotional level, but also not on the surprise leel thanks to internet rumors. Cotillard was gorgeous, though.

 Re: The Dark Knight Rises
I'd almost guarantee we'll see a YouTube video where someone takes one of the final bits of this ending, mixes it with some shots from Inception, and it all ends with a spinning top.

I feel like the same has been said for Bale throughout the series. I think he's an awesome and the best Bruce Wayne but I still think his Batman trails in comparison to Keaton's portrayal. Also I think Begins was the only Batman film that wasn't dominated by the villains. I'm excited as I preferred Begins as well (On entertainment level) Though I'm doing some traveling tomorrow and Saturday, may not get a chance to see it til Saturday which sucks.
