Finally: Michael Mann back on top of his game. What cinematography! But besides the usual Mann-gimmicks we also get a beautiful crafted thriller with amazing performances. Jamie Foxx started what should go down in history as one of the best acting years ever with this awesome performance. It is a thriller, but funnily enough the most amazing scene didn't feel like one. I'm talking about the opening cab drive with Foxx and Jada-Pinkett Smith (who has a small part, but probably the best one of her career). YOu could nearly touch the sparkle that was created between those two, it was such a great work of character introduction. 10 Minutes and you so cared for those two. That was brilliant, Mr. Mann. Maybe he should tackle a romance his net time out. A

Let me sum up Cruises character in one word:
"WOW!"
he was awsome as the cold hearted villian. You just couldn't like this guy. Collateral was very intense, and had some very intelligent dialouge.
One of the best dramas I've seen recently

9/10

The problem I had with the ending was not the shootout with the end so much as the overall thing of Cruise's character turning into the Terminator for the last 30 minutes. He was all about stealth, cleverness and professionalism, but for some unspoken reason near the end he risks everything to complete his job. From the car crash part on it just seemed very out of character for him, and removed any realism.

I enjoyed the ending, even if you knew what was going to happen it still was exciting!

I love the intensity Michael Mann brings to his movies. This one is no exception. :)

Also: L.A. has never been so ALIVE as it is in this.

Loved it a lot. Cruise's Vincent is one of the most badass characters of the decade.

Indeed.

From the trailer shots of Miami Vice, it loks like he did the same to Miami.

This is a great movie and Im surprised I don't have it on DVD. I do buy less DVDs than I used to, though.

Normally, I probably wouldn't have been interested in Miami Vice. But since Mann appears to have brought the added flair of some Miami heat, I'll be first in line for my ticket. :shades:

Same here. I might have been interested, but usually I never anticipate buddy cop flicks. This one, however, is my most anticipated for the rest of the summer and second-most anticipated for the year (behind The Departed).

Best film of 2004, though that's not saying much.

Amazing acting, great one-liners, great action, and a really good message to it. Plot holes is its only weakness. It shoud have done much better at the BO.

It took awhile for this movie to grow on me because quite frankly, when I first saw it, it bored me to tears with entirely too much dialogue and everything taking place in the back of the damn cab.. Not to mention the fact that at the end, when both Cruise and Foxx faced off on the Subway train and shot at one another in such close proximity, point blank range if you will through glass separating them and only Cruise get's hit but Foxx walks away without a blemish was completely BOGUS.. Considering that both Men where firing at one another the same time, both Men, not just Cruise, would've been hit.. Howver, CINEMAX or one of many CINEMAX channels beats this movie to death and it's on as I type this, it actually grows on you after awhile.. I've seen it several times now and would give it a "B".. Not sure what I gave it before, but it's better than what it was upon a first viewing.. In the end, this movie doesn't hold a candle to HEAT and I'm sure MIAMI VICE will make up for the lack thereof in COLLATERAL..

"B"..

This movie ruled. Mann is a genius, and I can't wait to see Miami Vice. Cruise and Foxx were brilliant in this movie.

4th best movie of 2004. Michael Mann is the man. He knows how to keep his audiences entertained and thrilled. Cruise and Foxx both give excellent performances.

Well, Foxx was the one shooting through glass, while Cruise's shots hit the metal inbetween the windows! (since he was going for his precision two taps to the chest and one to the forehead)

Great movie. It's hard to go wrong when you have solid acting and directing in a film. What I love most about this film is the continuing style and intensity throughout it. It does not falter even once. For this story, it makes for a well executed film. Tom Cruise is great here, because he's a character, not "Tom Cruise acting". And Foxx was superb too. I wouldn't have complained if he had won the Oscar for this performance too. He really nailed it, in my opinion.

Very enjoyable movie.

Cruise is alway's more interesting when he play's a bad guy. The final act is a bit silly when he goes all Terminator but otherwise no complaints. Brilliant soundtrack as well.
