...no seriously though, it's hilariously cheesy, but knowingly. It's absolutely bananas, but thanks to a not-too-long running time (unlike most of the films this summer) and AWESOME action scenes, it worked. It had a hilarious bad guy (and yes, I am talking about you know who - I didn't even know he was in this 'till tonight). It contained hilarious dialogue (ex. "When our master died, you took a vow of silence. Now you will die without a word." - White Ninja Guy). The acting was generally terrible, but who cares? And Sienna Miller was an absolute fox.
So yes, it is a perfect summer film.
I feel like one person who can really appreciate the awesomeness of G.I. Joe is bABA. Come back! Where is Baba anyway??? What?? A person gets married and now there spouses will tie them down and not let them post on a movie website anymore or what?? Does he not like KJ anymore??? What gives??

B+
Pretty good, it has everything a blockbuster needs, action, hot babes and an esasy storyline.
Off topic, does anyone know the name of the boom boom pow's remix at the ending credits?

Re: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
I liked it... best way to describe really is it's 100% summer. The action is really great, Sommers knows the light tone and certain degree of cheesiness that a project like this requires. And Jason Gordon-Levitt nails his evil mwhahaha part.
If I had a "gripe", it'd be that while this has the look and feel of a film that should be funny, it's just... not. It's like the kid that wants to be but just isn't. Now I'm not saying funny is required in a big action film, but as I get the sense it was trying to be, that'd be the hole I'd find in Sommers' execution.
Also Channing is not good. He should be like the 6th character in one of these films, like Josh Duhamel in Transformers 2 or Mr. Eko in this film... if there's no-one else you can get away with him being a 2nd-4th supporting guy like Sienna Miller or Rachel Nichols, because of his looks. But as the lead he's in over his head, he's just far far too bland and stiff to pull a major role like this off, I'm surprised he got it actually
4/5 for the action.

Re: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
Fucking A. Anyway I agree with Shack, Tatum is worse than Megan Fox. Thankfully he hardly ever has to act alone so you can kind of glaze over him. Also so much is going on so you don't really care about him. However if they make a sequel he should take some acting classes. Even Marlon Wayans outclassed him.
I loved Sienna Miller and Jason Gordon Levitt was pretty good. The other girl was hot. Dennis Quaid does the same thing everytime but it's cool. The Korean dude was the best Asian action dude I've seen in terms of acting in these kind of films. He can even speak well not like Jackie Chan etc etc. And I think that's it. The CGI some people say is goofy works for the film.
Oh and Shack, do you post in the how many movies have you seen this year thread? Or are your grades only in these threads?

Yes, though sometimes I get lax with updating it and do 2-3 at a time, especially early in the year when the top ten doesn't hold much relevance

Re: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
Yes it had to end with that because it was an awesome remix and was perfect blaring out loud in the cinema. Loved it.
Anyway film. A/B I loved it so much.
to answer some questions here...
Rachel Nichols and Sienna have a catfight, which rocks. Sienna Miller has some really funny bitchy lines like "that red head is really starting to piss me off" Channing Tatum is gorgeous and gets shirtless 3 times i think. Marlon Wayans is ripped. Rachel Nichols has a cracking figure in her gym gear Sienna fills out the catsuit perfectly and kills with black wig. Storm Shadow is ripped aswell. Snake Eyes was awsome. Marlon Wayans got a laugh at every joke. The 10-15 minute paris chase scene is the best action scene of the year IMO.
It definately has eye candy. and explosions, funny one liners, excitement, daft-ness and it all moves at a really really fast pace.
Roll on G.I. Joe 2.

I dont think Trek has one action sequence that stood out (it was all pretty great). Wolverine? No. Monsters Vs Aliens. No. I'm partial to Earth taking it up the ass in Knowing but I'm not sure I would say it was the best of the year (maybe by default). Harry Potter VI? No action. Watchmen? I dont know if there's an action sequence as typically described as such that stands out. Jail Break? No. Fast and Furious? Didnt see it, can't imagine it qualifies. I guess I'd go with The Hurt Locker. The action was pretty stellar.

Re: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
Absurdly awesome, I think its funny that with Transformers there is so little going on and you see nothing, here There's so much fucking going on and I saw it all. A feast for the eyes and I loved Brendan Frasier in it, he should have a bigger role in the next (Hell he probably should have played Duke). God I always thought Sienna Miller was ok, but she was so beautiful in this. The only big problem I had was Cobra's reveal should have been legendary but he looks fucking awful, and he really should have had the same voice as in the cartoon, that Darth voice was really annoying, and Destro's creation was awful too, They should have just stuck with the actual mask over him, and they had 2 Cobra looks to go from that were much more awesome than that And LOL at the flashbacks, I was waiting for a flashback in the middle of the flashback to happen. And that end credits song is absurd, Too much for a GIJOE song.

The plane crash in Knowing, the cave scene in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Manhattan blowing to shit in Watchmen, the Shangai and pyramid sequences in Transformers 2 were pretty awesome as well even if the film was shit. With Trek maybe the drill part? It's got the free fall, the fight on the drill thing, Spock trying to evacuate the people, and the planet imploding.

Top Yearly Action Sequences... 1. TF2: Optimus/Decepticon's battle in the graveyard/forest. 2. G.I. Joe: Paris sequence 3. Fast and Furious: Opening gas stealing sequence.
Oh btw, Joe is the blockbuster of the summer. Solid B

While I hated 2 hours and 10 minutes of the film, there were 20 minutes that were awesome, and that fight scene is the best of them all. I agree that it is probably the best action sequence of the year. I imagine Avatar may have something to top it.

Re: G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra
This has been a shit year for action scenes, that TF2 scene is mediocre at best, It was so stupid that OP fought by himself, and from the trailers showing so much, and he was in other spots, you knew he was going to revived. That said, I think the Paris scene was the best of the summer with the T4 car chase being good too (Though below the standards of the series)
1. GI JOE- Paris (It was different, had humor, long, in sight, and Snake Eyes kicked ass) 2. Drag me to Hell- Crazy Gypsy vs. Girl in car 3. Star Trek- Blowing up the Drill the first time 4. T4- Truck vs. Machine chase 5. TF2- Optimius in the Forest (I'll admit its the best of the film, but not of the summer)

I agree this year action flicks have been kinda boring.
D9 will blow away all the action flicks this year.
Hopefully Avatar will have some awesome action.
