 Re: (500) Days of Summer
Based on the trailers, I went in expecting a very twee, too fuckin cute for its own good type of experience. But it was much different to my surprise. It was biting and jaded, and very very smart. It didnt exist in some "it only happens in movies" universe like Juno. The things that Summer did, her motivations (or lackthereof) were very much grounded in reality. I know Summer. I dated her. I know guys like Tom. I immediately came out of the theatre thinking of High Fidelity and some of Cameron Crowe's work.

Cameron Crowe can do great stuff when he tones down the narcissism.

 Re: (500) Days of Summer
Saw this tonight. Every so often, a movie comes along where you completely, 100% connect with a character. Every emotion Tom went through during this movie, I could feel. The movie starts with a touching tribute. It then leads you through Tom and Summer's lives, leading up to Day 1. Throughout the movie we jump from different points during the 500 days, and it really helps move the story along, while building a connection with the characters. But where this movie really got me? Her party on her roof. The narration before he arrived got my heart racing, then the split screen started revving me up even more. And then as the party goes along, and we see that his future with her is over, it was as if I got hit by a truck. Devastating. I don't think I've ever felt so awful while watching a movie. Absolutely heartbreaking. Really special stuff. ****/**** A+

I think your spoiler might be the creative/emotional high point in the film.
I'm listening to the soundtrack right now.
BTW, the film is currently

It broke me down, lol.
The dancing scene was awesome. His "Roses are Red" card was brilliant. A LOT of great humor.

 Re: (500) Days of Summer
I thought it was phenomenal. Don't have time to post a full review yet but it's a touching and very realistic film with GREAT performances from both leads. Definitely one of the best of the year.

 Re: (500) Days of Summer
This movie is near perfection, honestly. I was beguiled and delighted and captivated throughout, as most great films manage to accomplish. Annie Hall is one of my absolute favorite films, and no film since then has reminded me of that one (favorably) as much as (500) Days of Summer does. The honest and hilarious script provides a great deal of insight into one-sided relationships. Joseph-Gordon Levitt and Zooey Deschenal exhibit plenty of chemistry and we root for their relationship for nearly the whole film even knowing it won't end well; Levitt is extremely charming and likable, while Deschenal manages the difficult task of both illuminating why Summer is so captivating and also portraying a character whom we only see through the perspective of someone else's eyes. This film takes risks and is willing to deviate from the formula. It was a joy to watch and I plan on seeing it again soon. Also, you'll never hear Hall & Oates' "You Make My Dreams" the same way again. A

 Re: (500) Days of Summer
I love how they pretty much started the film showing them on the bench, her with a wedding ring holding his hand, just to give us a glimmer of hope.
It made the film that much more emotional.
Oh, and I am SO seeing this again next weekend.

 Re: (500) Days of Summer
Wow. What a super sharp script this was! Seriously, it was clearly written by one of them very clever humans. It's so sharp, it's biting... And of course the two leads sold this whole freakshow d'amour with their preternatural charm and cuteness. Cuteness that is, at least until they turn ugly - - and that literally happens at several points in this film. They are both filmed so as to look like veritable monsters at times, especially Zooey. And then the direction is very astutely handled, veering from the tragic truth of regular old reality to the amped out crazy magical hyper-reality(s) - - what could have been the sameoldsameold, turns into a rivetting dissection of the "practice relationship" - - you know, the one with the hopelessly mismatched partner whom you're only with because of the transient fire of new love... I really enjoyed (500) Days Of Summer - - it is exhilirating! out of ( Plus - - I can't wait till they do the first sequel! I wonder how long they'll wait? Like Before Sunset long? Or will they bang 'em off quick? Will Minka Kelly play the "perfect" Autumn? What of Winter and Spring? I'll tell you one thing: whatever becomes of Tom's lovelife, one thing's for sure - - I wanna be along for the ride!!!)

Really? Someone gave it a C? I can see giving a bad grade to a huge movie getting praise, but this?
