 Re: My Bloody Valentine 3-D
Oh yeah, it was definitely worth it. I can't wait to see the next FINAL DESTINATION in 3D. I hope we see many more 3D horror flicks.

Disappointing actually. Have no idea why people think this movie is intentionally sucky in most aspects and say that's like an hommage to 80s horror. You could praise almost any horror these days by that standard. Must be some kind of a collective euphoria for this movie for whatever reason.
Even the use of 3D is tired. The opening sequence was actually pretty good - that subtle use of 3D with the bloody heart in the mirror was great. But it went in a completely cliched way after that. How many times can a pick coming out of the screen be used? If MBV3D is any indication it's probably the only valid reason to have 3D.
Lame. But yeah, it's not completely boring. It has its charms, however small they are.

Lame. But yeah, it's not completely boring. It has its charms, however small they are. Seeing this in a nearly empty theater, I can only assume that it's meant to be seen with a packed crowd. Everyone who saw it opening weekend enjoyed it much more than you or I. The other thing that didn't do this movie any favors was watching Coraline 3-D immediately after. Now there's 3-D done right! It was much more full and immersive, whereas here the 3-D that doesn't involve a shock was either non-existent, or failed entirely (that helicopter shot of the mine made it painfully clear it was a miniature.) That said, I did enjoy the whodunit mystery, and my buddy and I were able to crack plenty of MST3K jokes throughout. The killer's identity was a bit bullshit, when you consider how many scenes we had to go through of them freaking out by themselves. I sort of wish this was like Scream, only him and the sheriff were both the killer, but didn't know who the second guy was. If the movie was REALLY a parody, that would have been much more amusing.

I was sure Tom was the killer from the beginning, but as the movie was coming to an end I also thought it would be awesome if he worked with Axel.
The theater wasn't empty also. About 60% full.

 Re: My Bloody Valentine 3-D
Dark Shape is right this movie really is a throwback to the 80s slasher films which is probably why I found the entire enterprise snooze inducing.
I just can't enjoy a film when a man in a coma wakes up and proceeds to slaughter a dozen people like he is superman and is seemingly unaffected by the inevitable muscle degradation that would have occurred. Well I digress I could enjoy it if the film avoids a sheen of serious which slasher films often have a problem avoiding.
Its pretty much a Friday the 13th film with a gas mask in place of a hockey mask. Oh spotting the lazy blatant usage of 3D was fun however.

The only reason to see the film is for the motel sequence from the girl to the midget. Everything else was a gigantic waste of time.

 Re: My Bloody Valentine 3-D
Now THIS is how a horror remake SHOULD be.. Whoever voted "F" for this movie are a bunch of retards.. Harry Warden apparently isn't happy with his fellow Miners or anyone else who comes within his path apparently and that's what the focus of this movie is about is a deranged killer who wears a miner getup complete with a spotlight shown on them before he kills his victims in the most elabarate ways, that even the makers of Friday the 13th should've taken note of.. The full frontal nudity was so explicit in this movie, I'm sort of surprised they got away with an R-Rating.. BEST KILL OF THE MOVIE: At least one of the best cause there was more than 1: Harry Warden(or is it) takes this shovel, pins this chick up against a wood vault in the mine and shoves the shovel through her mouth, all the way through causing the top portion of her head to slide off the top of the shovel and the bottom part of her slump to the ground completely in half.. BRAVO!!!
RUNNER UP KILL: When the former retired sheriff was on the porch of this house toward the end, he encounters The Miner, goes to strike him and instead, is met with the Pick Axe down through his nose and out of the bottom of his chin, then the Miner pulls the Pick Axe out along with the bottom porton of his face killing him.. EXCELLENT!!
What's really good about this movie is the "Who Really Done it" aspect of it that totally had me thrown off as to who the Miner really was.. Was it the young sheriff with the goatee who hated his wife's former boyfriend?? Was it the boyfriend passing through town to sell his share of the Mine putting alot of people out of work as a result?? Was it one of the former sheriffs who killed Harry Warden years earlier?? All fo these had me guessing up til it was revealed and it was GREAT.. Hell, I even thought it was both the sheriff with the goatee AND the former boyfriend in cahoots with one another, sort of like how the original SCREAM movie was..
Overall, what a GREAT MOVIE and all I ask is that there be NO SEQUELS TO THIS HOLLYWOOD.. Don't Fuck a good thing up for once, Please?? I gave this movie an "A" of the highest recommendation..

 Re: My Bloody Valentine 3-D
Glad you liked it.
It did seem really fresh, despite being a remake, and i agree the kills were awesome.
And Lionsgate confirmed they have no plans for a sequel, so rest easy!
It's definitely a stand alone film.

My Bloody Valentine really stands out among the crop of mediocre/bad horror remakes that Hollywood churns out each year. Is it a great horror film? No, definitely not. It's also not as fun as last year's Piranha 3D. But it can definitely stand its own against most slasher horror films released into theatres nowadays.
The plot is as generic as it gets. A deranged killer is offing young pretty people (and some not so young and pretty ones) with a pick-axe. There's also a twist at the end of the film which is nicely done, but not all too surprising. The movie doesn't break new ground, but Patrick Lussier certainly knows how to keep the audiences entertained. The movie is very much a throwback to the slasher flicks of the 1980s with no pretense, a lot of nicely done blood 'n gore and a nice female full frontal scene. The 3D is used just the way you'd expect in a horror film like this. It is very much "in your face", though in most scenes not very impressive. I don't think the movie would have lost any of its entertainment value without it.
Now it is not suspenseful and works purely on the fun level. Moreover, while Lussier has a good hand for entertainment, his direction itself is rather bland. Jamie King, whom I usually enjoy seeing quite a bit, leaves not much of an impression here. But kudos to Tom Atkins for his appearance! Definitely fit an 80s homage like this.
I must say that with all its shortcomings and lack of vision, it is a rewatchable film and a great pick for a movie night with friends.
