Double feature tonight to get me ready for Godzilla (2014) tonight. I remember seeing this in 1998 on opening day. I was disappointed but entertained then. What a piece of crap this movie is to me now. The only thing worth watching here is Jean Reno. That's it. The movie rips off Jurassic Park several times, and the effects are far worse. The script is atrocious.
D (not an F because of Jean Reno).
Seriously, this is almost as bad as Eragon.
2nd part of double feature? The MUCH better Pacific Rim.
It's not a great movie but I remember finding it completely enjoyable back in the 90's, for that reason I give it a B

Re: Godzilla (1998)
The new one is about equally disapointing for me as this one was back then.
Still a guilty pleasure of mine, but the effects have aged horribly. I remember being so excited for this when it first came out and when I finally saw it in theatres I had fun with it.
It's a entertaining creature romp that shouldn't be called Godzilla.

Re: Godzilla (1998)
It's a terrible movie with perhaps the worst performance by an actress and most annoying performance by an actor in history.
But damn the movie is very entertaining. Azaria and whoever plays his girlfriend kill it. It is a surprisingly hilarious movie with truly awesome action scenes.
But its still really, really bad.

Re: Godzilla (1998)
This is more entertaining than the 2014 film alone. Reno can make the stupidest written line of dialogue cool, as long as he has a lighter and ominous music.

"What did you see, old man?" is a badass line.

Re: Godzilla (1998)
This movie is entertaining but has a lot of stupid plots, specially Godzilla vanishing and stuffs (even with sewage system its a skyscraper level giant we are talking about), the laying of eggs in silence, ducking the nuclear missiles without knowing what they are. Having said that when the action hits its very believable and takes you into the world. The love story arc is serviceable and Reno is so cool in this.

Hank Azaria and whoever plays his girlfriend are by far the best actors in this movie.
