I thought it was incredibly overrated. *runs from Libs and her pitchfork* That's because you can't relate to it  Well, I can't really either, but I understood it all much more than a typical young male would.
I did, too. And if that makes me a middle-aged woman, then so be it!
As for As Good as It Gets, I remember seeing it when it first came out on video and liking it a lot, and that was when I was ten. (What a weird kid.) I'll be renting it again sometime.
And as for The Usual Suspects (heh)...
I like it a lot, and the ending is brill (is it okay if I use that word?), but I actually found the first 3/4 of the film to be a little unnecessarily... plodding.
Must rent that one again, too!

'Supects' Anything but Usual...
Well, finally got to see this today, and now I understand what all the talk was about. I had an idea of the ending in advance, but I wasn't sure. That point aside, this is easily one of the most brilliant movies of the 1990's. Simply put it is almost perfect. From the astounding performances, to the flawless techinical aspects it really is a well-made film. The ending is simply shocking and the way it is revealed is one of the best of the ever growing "Surprise Twist" genre films.
A+ and into my All-Time Top 10.

An excellent film. When I found out Singer was picked to direct X-Men, I nearly went through the roof because I liked this movie so much. Great ending. Very unpredictable, unlike The Sixth Sense.

Well, count me as pretty damn shocked. I had an idea coming in that the famous ending was brilliant, while the rest fell behind. Um, yeah. Wrong assumption. The entire movie was unbelievably fantastic, from the plot to the characters to direction to the score to the acting. The Usual Suspects is flat-out, one of the best movies I've ever seen. Just wow.
And oh yeah, the ending ain't bad either.
Automatically enters my top 25 of all time, at least.

One of the best screenplays of the past twenty years, if not all time. Not only is the ending dynamite, the entire movie is engrossing and intriguing. No matter how many times I watch it, I figure out new things each time. It's incredibly layered and exceptionally plotted. To add to that, the direction is great and the cast is terrific. Every character feels real and developed. The lineup scene is simply hilarious. And, of course, it's got one of the best twist endings in the history of cinema. It makes you question everything that just happened. A modern masterpiece.

A gimmick, and not even a good one. Blah. Completely devoid of suspense or laughs or anything else that would make me give a shit about this movie.

Thought it was overrated back then, saw it again last night and it was even more mediocre than I remembered it to be. Siskel and Ebert got it right. C.

Damn good film. Just got done watching it. Loved every minute of it to the narration by Spacey, the witty humor, the acting and the ending was incredible. A

Rewatched it a couple of weeks ago. Such a BRILLIANT movie! The ending has got to be one of the five best ever.

 Re: The Usual Suspects
Huh? Oh sorry I am watching The Usual Suspects. Boring, uncharasmatic, uninspirted directing, too word heavy, too hard to get into, and I don't give a shit about the characters. Hopefully it gets better, watching it on AMC right now.

 Re: The Usual Suspects
I know the twist before watching this film. But yet, amazingly that didn't ruin my experience (much). There's still a lot to love about this film besides the twist. It's brilliant.

 Re: The Usual Suspects
It was a good movie, too bad I knew the twist beforehand, or sort of.
Since Spacey was the only one who really had a career, his name just stood out to be the villain, as well as, him being the only survivor and the 'Who is Keyser Soze?' which immediately made my mind confirm that what I heard of old was definitely right.
I also saw Seven before it and people said Spacey was good as a villain, great performance in TUS, and right before it began I thought I saw Spacey saying 'I am Keyser Soze' and I actually rewatched it to see if he did, obviously he did not.
Anyway, I still think is a great movie even though I kind of knew the twist as already mentioned. The story and characters are excellent and that's what will hold up the film in the long run.
I see though that the usual snobs are around to hate on everything. If all those foreign directors and old movies you praise as your top 10 or whatever become popular you'll say they're crap too, which is why I despise people who act like snobs, because all they want is to feel superior and exclusive and it's pretty damn sad you have to do it on an Internet forum with a head count of what 30? I know they all aren't any longer here having vacated to another forum with even less people, but it's still quite pathetic that has to be pointed out.
It's not that you can't like a movie but the way you respond and judge people and the movie itself which gives your attitude away. Good thing you have the Internet though because, without any life to speak of outside of it, you might've already killed yourselves.

Watch his filmography before this movie and up to this point he was just a good character actor but not a household name. I would say Gabriel Byrne was more famous and had had a better career up to that point.

 Re: The Usual Suspects
^I mean post-TUS.
True, anyone could have been the villain, but, since the film is revered, (and I guess, it's slightly faulty logic,) but, he would then have gotten more roles/fame/recognition.

Typical Stephen Baldwin vehicle. Or maybe it was Daniel.

 Re: The Usual Suspects
10/10 -> A
I haven't seen it in years. I was surprised to see that's it's slowly starting to show its age. There's no mistake this is a 90's movie. But it still packs a big punch and the ending is still mindblowing. But it's not the ending that makes this movie, it's the whole thing. It's THE mystery/crime/thriller ride similar genre movies aspire to be.
Great script, great acting, great directing. Everything is on spot.
I actually wanted to show this one to my friend but he fell asleep midway through and I didn't notice that at all (otherwise I'd punch him to stay awake). So when the movie was over I looked at him and thought: "OMG you dumbass you missed such a great movie." Then I woke him up and he asked my how did the movie end. I was lost for words. I mean I still remember that jaw dropping moment as the movie was ending when I first watched it and I just said: " You gotta see it for yourself." I didn't want to tell him the ending just so that he could go: "Oh, cool." and let everything remain on that. That's not how The Usual Suspects should be watched.

 Re: The Usual Suspects
I never watched this movie until today and loved it. Definitely excellent all around. Unfortunately I knew the twist going in and up until the last ten minutes I thought it would hinder the experience but it was executed so well, I didn't care.
Never knew where the Scary Movie ending came from either.

 Re: The Usual Suspects
The film is so much more than the ending. But seeing the ending executed is a real treat as well. A truly great moment in film, and the ending only works more on repeat viewings thanks to a lot of little moments. As is the famous line up in the beginning, and the film is just really well made and entertaining. Stephen Baldwin as the Baldwin with the most potential is a distant memory though.
