I highly doubt that you've read the books. I'd very much like to test your knowledge sir.
You like to wind people up don't you?

The film lacks the first one's spirit and vitality, and the second installment's focus and 'epic' feel, but does manage to preserve the integrity and importance of its predecessors.
If it does seem confusing and unfocused at times, that is because most likely it simply is. Having to cover a huge ground, and being forced to carry the burden of the trilogy as a whole, it sometimes stumbles under the weight. The characters are tired, the effects become repetitive, and the ending drags on. That being said, at every turn and in every scene, the film gives the viewer the sense that the journey, for all its ups and downs, was worth taking.
B+ I second that. B+ Vastly over-rated, but still an epic movie that is one of the best of recent years.
I second your second....
I tried to watch it today and appreciated the grand scope of the movie, but it was too confusing and lost focus far too often. It doesn't quite handle the complexity of such a massive story as a true masterpiece would. I would give it a B-, having only seen an hour and a half of it. I just can't afford to waste two more hours of my life on it, sorry

I didn't like either of the first LORD OF THE RINGS films but FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING was okay, TWO TOWERS was just terrible. I did like this one though.
8/10 (B+)

The second and third ones lacked the grace of the first. There was something elegantly understated about some sequences in FOTR, such as the Arwen horse ride to the river, or the well choreographed battle with the monsters in the mine. As I've said before, if I didn't know better, I'd think PJ didn't direct 2 and 3, they are that different in competency and skill.

=D> One thing I loved about the first was that eloquence. That's whats lacking in the rest. No glamour. And these movies *need* that to keep me interested, because the story just isn't that compelling to me.

I give 10/10. I loved it even I think FOTR was better. Overall a great ending and a cinematographers wet dream.

HHaahahaha...
I was watching video clips of it online today and I felt this bitter-sweet nostalgia overtake me. I was sad once more. I don't think any series of films has ever gotten such an emotional rise out of me. Something in that body of work connected with someplace deep inside of me and awoke it. I'll be forever greatful to have been a part of the trilogy and to stand witness to it's greatness.
I haven't a care what anyone else thinks.

A TTT/ROTK vid-clip some fan made with bits from the video game. The beginning lags a little, but then it gets good.

Nope, didn't realize that. Sorry.

Saw the Extended Version and loved it. An all around amazing movie. The mega battle is soooo awesome. The only faults were the beginning with Gollum and the countless endings. King is not as good as Fellowship, but comes close. A+

LOTR: ROTK - A Pale Wraith of the Book...
I have to say that ROTK is a pale wraith that dare not lift it's head before the ultimate fantasy book it is based upon. If this was a TV miniseries from the 80's that I happened to flip past late one night on the tube, I might be a amused - but as the supposed cornerstone theatrical movie event of the year, I am severely underwhelmed. It is a mere bauble (a 10+ hour long bauble altogether, mind you). The inability of the screenplay to convey the inner struggles of the characters render this whole enterprise into a big sappy boy's adventure serial. This one deserves to go in the ambitious failures dumpster...
1 out of 5.

The best of the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
Wonderful storytelling with an absolute emotional and visual punch. It is so well crafted in it's visuals, all of the technicals (costume, visual effects, makeup, etc etc.), and it's script and emotion which give the actors so much to work with (an already amazing acting ensemble), it is impossible for me to give this anything less than an A+. Not to mention this does the book ultimate justice, capturing the story and the huge thematic value of the book. And to top it at all off, the movie ends with the famous scene and line which also ends the book and the entire story created by Tolkien.
A+
PEACE, Mike.

I recently rewatched it and I have to add that the ending lasted forever. I think they could have deleted a good 20 minutes from the middle or somewhere and had it only top out at 3 hours.

The worst in the Franchise IMO, TTT I liked the most, its the only one that got an A+, I though the other to were pretty good, but I think they were kinda drown out and boring.

Worst in the franchise.
The siege of Minas Tirith did not have much atmosphere; Jackson must have lost his touch after Helm's Deep. Also, Mordor was disappointingly crafted, after the excellent Minas Morgul sequence. The sky wasn't even dark, for sakes. For such a heavily landscape-based film series, this is underwhelming.
