This movie was very well received when it was released in 2002, just about everyone said it was better than FOTR...in fact, it has the highest score on Rotten Tomatoes of all the 3 LOTR pics (FOTR at 93%, TTT at 98% and ROTK at 94%).
For me. it's my 2nd favourite film of all-time.....behind ROTK and ahead of FOTR...LOL

The 2nd best of the 3.
Words cannot describe my love of Lord of the Rings. Well... I suppose those previous words kind of did.

Hmm... A-
My least favorite of the films, but still great. My favorite thing about it is probably Saruman playing a bigger role. He's one of my favorite characters.

I can't really review the films on their own.

Re: Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
The worst of the trilogy, but its still an excellent epic. Its basically a war film more than the other two. The most interesting plotline is obviously the one concerning Rohan, where we meet a cast of stupendous characters who are all extremely well-acted (especially Theoden by Bernard Hill). And Helms Deep is absolutely amazing, especially the "Ride of the Rohirrim" at the end. Gollum is incredibly well-realized, but once Frodo meets Faramir his plotline became a little dull, although the Osgiliath segment does offer a very memorable sequence (Frodo offering the ring to the Nazgul). Merry and Pippin's story is quite boring until the end where the Ents trash Isengard, which is all kinds of awesome. But apart from the action sequences, TTT offers some very emotional moments, like the children parting their mother in a village or Elrond's speech to Arwen. And I just love the film's style. All the slo-mo with beautiful music in the background, the epic cinematography, its all so ridiculously awe-inspiring. I don't think we'll ever see a series similar to Lord of the Rings. Its really hard to make a great "middle story" but Jackson pulled it off here.
A+

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
The best battle of the entire trilogy is here and it ends well though some parts are still stretched out a bit here and it does feel like the middle chapter in the end. Still one of the very best movies to watch as a standalone movie.

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Pretty good, though the battle of helms deep is unnecessarily drug out. Stuff with Frodo, Sam and Gollum is easily the best part. But a good middle chapter for sure.

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
Still pretty great. Helm’s Deep is the best battle in fantasy movie to date

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
The Two Towers is my least favorite by far of the trilogy. The pacing comes to a halt about halfway through in the leadup to helms deep, which feels like it never ends. I was checking my watch by the time Gandalf came to the rescue. The Ent storyline felt like it went on and on too. Neither are bad, just did not feel like they needed to be so long. Best plotline is Gollum Sam and Frodo.

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
The story always seemed relatively pointless in this one to me, like 3 hours just for Frodo and Sam to get closer to the mountain.

Watching the Extended cut is essential for Two Towers. It elevates it so much.

There was someone on this forum who made a (good) case for ROTK theatrical being superior to the extended cut. Erendus I think.

With the exception of Saruman's death and the mouth of sauron scene, I don't miss any other scenes in the ROTK extended.

The Return of the King extended cut slogs so much with Sam and Frodo in Mordor that the theatrical is better for that reason alone, although the theatrical cut missing the final scene with Saruman is criminal

Re: The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
On the 4k blu rays the extended editions are broken up into six parts so I just watch them like that now. Its a peaceful life.
I watched the extended Hobbits and didn't really notice a difference. Battle of the Five Armies is still the best one and only like an 8 at best. Would love a re-edit of that trilogy though since Smaug vs Lake Town should have happened in part two.
