The last truly brilliant stand alone Disney movie (the emporer's last groove was decent as well thou). Very funny and yet very dark hell the song's didn't even annoy me.
A+

I love this film. One of the great cinematic experiences of my childhood.

Must really be one of KJ's best-rated films.

This isn't one of my favourite Disney classics. I'll take Beauty and the Beast and The Emperor's New Groove over this. I consider those real classics. The Lion King is just average, for me.

An excellent addition to Disney's collection. Not their absolute masterpiece, but still great.

Lion King is 2nd for me in Disney's animated films, Aladdin was just a whole other league I think. While Lion King was a huge grand epic on all levels, Aladdin just has a huge amount of heart.

A classic in every sense. I have always really enjoyed this movie, and I think I always will.

I have a grudge against Disney for ruining Animated movies for so long that I cannot judge any of their older movies with fairness.
I remembered this being one of the better ones, though.

I would argue this is Disney's most adult movie. Where else does a Disney story deal with the death of a father figure through a son witnessing a very serious murder. Yeah, this move is amazing.

One of the great ones of Disney's second golden age -- almost as good as Little Mermaid, Tarzan, Mulan, Pocohontas, and Beauty and the Beast -- and the only one that inspired a sequel that was even better than the original (the extremely under-rated Lion King II: Simba's Pride). Also of course, that great middle-of-the-road soundtrack by Elton John...
6 out of 5.

Name an animated Disney movie where one or more of the parents aren't tragically killed...
(As a matter of fact Disney goes for the rare parent murder trifecta in Tarzan, where both his parents are killed at the beginning and his step-father is shot and killed at the end!)

saw it a few days ago, i would give it a C+. perhaps i would find the original version a little bit better, i saw the synchronized german version, which was insufferable at times. it may still be the best among disneys "great" new films, which dont hold a candle to true pieces of art like snow white.

 Re: The Lion King
It was good, but Hunchback and Beauty and the Beast were better, making the most of what Disney does best: animated musicals.
