Just saw it. I'm flat-out shocked. I was expecting it to be a good watch, but not quite this. It completley knocked it out of the park. It takes everything Lost In Translation tried to set out to do and outdoes that movie in every single way. Zach Braff has compiled what has got to be one of the most impressive directorial debuts ever. The humor is superb in the movie. Braff is also up to par on acting, and Natalie Portman gives the best female performance of 2004. She definitly should got an Oscar nom for this. From where I'm sitting it looks to me like she should've won the award flat-out easily as the frontfunner. Its lines, dialouge, the emotional gripping, it was that good.

I have to buy this movie.

Despite all the raves and great reviews, I tried to keep myself neutral towards the movie before seeing it. I believe this is the reason why I loved it even more than I would have otherwise. It is a really really good movie and better than quite a couple of last year's Best Picture nominees.

Now I don't like Zach Braff. There is something about this guys that annoys me instantly. But this movie pretty much made me forget it. I still wasn't very fond of his acting, but the amazing supporting cast more than made up for that. Natalie Portman is great, but the real highlight is probably Peter Saarsgard.

I recoemmend this movie to any person of young age especially since I am pretty sure that the vast majrotiy will be able to identify with it and embrace it. The movie is well-written and it has some reall well-concepted off-beat humor à la Sideways that made me laugh quite a bit. At the same time, the movie is also a good romance and the chemistry between Portman and Braff is right. The ending of the movie is incredibly predictable and clichéd, but man I felt satisfied. I can't remember the last tme I went out of a movie with such a big smile on my face. I was glad that this ending was predictable and ended exactly as predicted.

This is a well-made drama that in a way reminded me of Donnie Darko and American Beauty, both movies that I consider superior to this one which doesn't say much since these two belong to my all-time favorites. Garden State is a wonderful movie on a journey for self-discovery as well as the question "What is home?". Many people (myself included) dread another situation that is dealt with in the movie. Once you are done studying and get a job...what then? What is there in life after that? The movie doesn't give a clear answer to that, but it still deals with this topic at its best.

Superb flick and very quotable as well.

Heh, I've probably watched this movie on DVD more than any other DVD I own. It holds the #2 position on my All Time list only behind the LOTR series. It is amazingly shot and amazingly acted in.

Love it love it :)

Post Charming Fairy Tale Comedy!
Wow! I really enjoyed this downright charming romantic comedy. It is quirky -- done right. Very, very funny and rings true. The lead actors were all great, and the writing was really sharp.

I suppose I agree with critics saying the third act went to a traditional sentimental romance after the opening detached charm, but what can I say, I ate it up! But I do think it has to do with director Braff's current age - I bet 20-Something's might completely buy this as the way life works. Still it makes for a great fantasy for those who know better...

5 out of 5.

I gotta say that I am somewhat in agreement. I mean, it certainly was a generic romance ending at the end with Braff's character hurrying back and not talking the plane and all. It was expected. But for one, in this film, this was exactly the ending I wanted. I did want him to come back and this ending made me smile. Great chemistry bgetween Braff and Portman.

Just got done watching it and it was a great movie. I decided to rent it due to the fact that this movie is one of my best friends favorite movie. Zach Braff did an incredible job and so did Natalie Portman, but I did get someone annoyed with her character at the beginning. I give this movie a A-. Good movie.

I've watched it two or three times over the past three days, as various friends of mine ended up bored at my house, so I suggested watching the movie and they said sure. I cried each time, even in spite of all of my viewings prior. I love this movie.

A very enjoyable debut movie from Braff. Perfect in fact if your aged 18-25.

"Oh, look how clever and quirky I am! The dog humps the guy's leg! The shirt matches the wallpaper!" Fuck you. Poorly directed, ridiculously written mess that expects me to give a shit about its smug lead's quarter-life-crisis. As for the soundtrack, Nick Drake and Simon & Garfunkel, that's it. I won't give a shit about The Shins in ten years, and I barely do now.

The only movie I won a soundtrack too. Ok ok I had sister act 2 soundtrack but that was years ago. The film? Great! Sarsguard was great along with POrtman. Braff was ok, but the film itself was great if not a bit amateur.

I did not like this film at all. It's funny in some parts, but for the love of God, some of the characters and plot elements are awful. The Sarsgaard character is disgusting, and I can't really say I find either Braff's or Portman's characters very likeable either. And the mother thing? Please...
