I wish I could play for you guys a voice mail I got from my friend Brian. In it, he declares 300 to be, give or take a picture or two, pretty much the worst movie ever made. He also describes, with much hilarious incredulity, the applause that met the end credits.
And with one snap of cell phone, I now want to see something I would have otherwise not bothered with until the inevitable non-stop USA Network/FX airings.

I expected to hate this. I mean, if Sin City had a plot and it sucked, how awful could this be?
The IMAX experience was anything but awful. It was enthralling. I'm not ashamed to call it fantastic. As Baroque is to art, 300 is to film. What an experience.

Guybrush wrote the most linguistically turgid review I've ever stumbled upon. Dense language is no fault in itself, but not when so much of it conveys so little. It could have been condensed into: "Fuckin' A!"
No offence, but that F made me crack a wry grin.

Zennier's condensed version makes more sense.

I'm with Makeshift, it was alright, but the voice over narration was bloody irritating. I like Faramir, but dear God, does he ever shut up.
If you check your brain at the door, it has some entertainment value, but Dominic West is so much better in the Wire, he he comes across as acting with the dept of Paul Walker.

Of course, this is absolutely check-your-brain-at-the-door entertainment. And damn good entertainment, too. This is one of two reasons why I go to the movies: to lose myself in an epic, beautiful adventure.

It would've made more sense if he just went durka durka durka. durka durka. durka. F.

Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) is like the missing lovechild of Grace Jones and one of the guys from Velvet Goldmine.
I was entertained. Not as shallow as Sin City nor as hokey as Troy.

Yeah WTF?
I laughed at the credits when it says "Transsexual #1 (Asian).... Transsexual #2 (Asian)... Transsexual #3 (Arabian)"

I burst out laughing when they showed the goat like rocking out at Xerxes' tranny party.
As much as I had an incredibly good time at 300, it becomes sillier the more I think about it. I think my grade is probably more B+ than A-

LOL, yeah I noticed that too today when I actually stayed to see them. Pretty funny. I didn't pay enough attn to see if there was a mention of the goat though. I also recall that one of these trannies had no arms. That whole scene always has the audience thinking "wtf" in their heads.

It also seriously made me got Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat when I found out Xerxes is played by the same guy who plays Paulo (although he's about 2 lines of dialogue so far) on Lost, and the guy Laura Linney was in love with in Love Actually.
Like, seriously, the hell? How did they make his voice so deep?

Xerxes' digitally altered voice reminded me or Ra's in Stargate. Which reminded me of Jaye Davidson. I now love this man, who also played a throwaway villain in Charlie's Angels 2.
*swoons*
The transsexuals and the Xerxes were too much for me. They had me in my drag queen voice in no time.

The camp factor of this movie is setting in. I'm loving it.
That doesn't look like the same man. Not at all. The eyes are the same, but the rest...
Watching him dwarf Gerard Butler and then seeing him as this sort of lanky guy on Lost is sort of funny.

AMAZING movie.
One of the best war movies I have ever seen. The action sequences were extraordinary, the visuals were spectacular, and it was just sooo damn fun. A

The lady on the left isn't a lady.

Rodrigo looks oddly like a brunette Cate Blanchett in that picture.
I'm not saying Cate looks like a dude, but...I think it might be in the eyes.

I posit that this comportment derives from an aspiration to have profundity imagined in one’s writing by the credulous , impressionable and insecure. If a critique is not understood it can be alleged brilliant out of want to elude feelings or charges of inadequate intellectual aptitude. To needlessly supplement an unintelligible layer of utter bullshit can be an endeavor in trickery over those eager fools wishing for deep significance in biases they cannot readily articulate. The fault lies with the hope for near divine validation for sentiments that otherwise might be deemed merely as subjective opinions. In this case few were deceived. But more clever authors can unfortunately create this sort of illusion with success. You can find it wherever the opportunity exists.
Anyway, Fucking A.
Well, B+. If only anything besides the action was interesting.
