 Re: Spirited Away
I've actually been in the mood of watch this recently. It's a great movie, and one of my favorite animes. I'm not that much into anime, but I do love Kiki's Delivery Service, this, the Cowboy BeBop movie, and there's one or two more I really have an enjoyable time watching.

 Re: Spirited Away
I watched this when it came out on DVD and didn't care much for it. I remember finding it overlong and boring.

There are an incomprehensible number of heathens in this thread - - it makes me physically sick that those that blapheme so vomitously about Spirited Away are even part of my own KJ.... Miyazaki is God.

I don't usually like anime, but goddamn it if this isn't one of the most imaginative and whimsical films of the last decade.

Re: Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi [Spirited Away]
I didn't understand this at all. It had to be the weirdest movie ever. everyone says this is Miyazaki's masterpiece, but if this is it, he must have a terrible filmography. Seriously, I turned this off after 20 minutes. I was so disappointed. It was just weird and creepy and the music sucked ass. It did not fit the film at all. Whoever came up with this idea for a movie must have been really high. I will withhold a grade, as I have not seen the whole thing, but I doubt I will ever muster the desire.

Maybe I'm too stupid to appreciate true art. I'll probably try it again this week.

It is the Japanese Alice in Wonderland like the Wizard if Oz is the American Alice in Wonderland.

I am about 45 minutes into it now, it has gotten better, but it is still not my cup of tea.

Re: Sen to Chihiro no kamikakushi [Spirited Away]
Finally finished it. Entertaining enough, but really weird and it was hard to understand what was going on at some points. I could never tell in the second half of the movie if it was Yubaba or Zaneba on screen. I thought it was kind of weird that the whole movie took place at a bath house and then a swamp. Thought it would be much more epic and scope after reading all of the reviews. Literally all that happens in this movie is she gets employed at a bath house for spirits and she makes friends with a river spirit from her childhood while trying to please her boss. And the true love thing at the end shocked me. I didn't expect something so cliched from this movie. You would expect that in American animation, but the way people wet their pants over Studio Ghibli stuff would make you think the script writers would be more clever. It is a decent, if weird movie. My only conclusion as to why this movie is so beloved is people think they look smart when they proclaim a foreign animated movie as great and people who think it is weird are "jaded" and "uncultured" and "just don't get it".

"You are just too young" would be my gut reaction, but then again, I saw this at 16 and loved the hell out of it, so that cannot be.

B nah, it's just a great animated movie period. Watch it again in the future with no expectations and you'll probably like it more.

I know lots of people younger than me who like this movie. But they are the people who read manga and watch stuff like Adventure Time, so that is to be expected.

I don't read Manga and I don't even know what Adventure Time is. Spirited Away is just a fantastic and wildly imaginative fairy tale.
