I really hope this film is remembered at Oscar time. It would be easy to put ARkin's name down on the ballot for best supporting, but you could really do it for the whole cast. And the script is hilarious and I really just love this film!!

I wonder if there will be a backlash in this thread now, from people who have been overhyped by positive posts and go in expecting to be blown away.

I can see that.
I guess you could say I fell victim to that, a little.

A lot of people are saying that the film is a shoo-in for a script nomination, but the fact is that a majority of the comedy isn't dialogue-derived: The two biggest laughs in my theater were for the dance scene and another involving a car horn.
I don't know. Not saying that those weren't hilarious, but I'm not feeling the praise for the writing.
Like I said, I like the movie a lot, but I don't think it's... brilliant.

Agree that the acting and directing is better than the script. If there was a book version of Little Miss Sunshine, it definitely wouldn't be as good.

I think i'm with Dk, basically. I have it pretty high, i think, because there's SOO much to laugh at. But beyond that, i also thought it was kinda lacking in the character development/ likability/ reality department. and i thought it went a little way over the top in more than one place. it just kinda didnt sit right with me...besides the laughs. :O

That's funny. Was I the only one that never really laughed out loud during this movie? I really liked it. Gave it an A. Best movie of the year, but everyone in the audience was laughing out loud all the time, while I just found it very evenly pleasureable the whole way along.

Seems like I waited a year to see this film. Caught it in Denver yesterday.
A+
As great as I hoped.

Well, I flat out loved the film. It was everything I expected and thensome. Every character is perfectly cast. I also have to agree with ChipMunky, I loved Steve Carell in the film, but Paul Dano steals the show. The best scene in the film from a plot standpoint is thanks to him, when he learns something about himself and explodes out of the van. The scene with him screaming, and then with Olive coming up next to him is just perfect.
This is my favorite film of the year so far.
A+

The scene between Olive and her brother Dwayne will become one of those clips often replayed during retrospectives on cinema.

I have to say I would have to vote for Alan Arkin's "Olive, you are the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. And it's not because of your brains or personality." scene with Olive in the hotel room to be the most likely candidate, but...
I LOVE THIS MOVIE. It is basically sick. Seriously, 16 out of 17 people who voted awarded it an A and the only person who didn't gave it a B+ and said it was great.

I'd agree with that. Collette, Kinnear, Carell, all good. But I think Dano's scene with the "BANKRUPT. DIVORCED. SUICIDAL." ended up being the crux of the film's thematic material. Great scene.

I dunno if I'd go that far, but yeah, that scene was just so perfect. I really hope Dano breaks out.
I might actually see this again tomorrow with my mom and dad. My dad loved when he saw it, and after it ended the woman next to me turned to me and said, "That just goes to show you don't need $100 million to make a great movie." I was taken aback by the comment just a bit.
Seriously, when was the last time a movie had WOM THIS good? My Big Fat Greek Wedding?

I really think so. But I even remember some people not liking MBFGW, I have not found one person who didn't at least like this movie yet.

My favorite scene was when they get Olive to eat the chocolate ice cream. Loved it so much. You look closely and see how they kind of all swerve their spoons in front of her first, and she looks on and her resolve breaks in two seconds. Loved that scene, which was obvious since I opened my entire review with it and compared the movie to the scene, kind of.
I told my sister to go check it out when I saw her last week.

Well, I haven't seen MBFGW, but it seems like it was, while charming, very stereotypical and a little grating to some.
THe great thing about LMS is that it leaves a smile on your face when its over, but it does so in the most un expected of ways. *SPOILERS* Dad's big investment is a failure, Grandpa dies, Dwayne's silence was in vain, and Olive is disqualified from the pagent she so wanted to participate in. Yet. . .they still love each other and (In the end) stick together. Basically, it pleases both those cynical and those looking for a good time.
Seriously, if the expansion goes well tomorrow, the sky's the limit for this.

Does anyone else find the fact that the "A" grade has 94% and "B" has 5% bizarre? Where did the other 1% go?

I don't think they show the .034634 on there, just the two main digits.

It's always the quiet but emotionally explosive scenes like the bus ride in The Graduate that earn spots in those retrospectives.
I think Olive's resolve and embrace fits perfectly.

Great film. I'm surprised. I expected an overrated film that wasn't nearly as good as people said it was but LMS was fantastic. The acting was great from all (surprised that Carell did as well as he did in a non-comedic role). Did the beauty pagent at the end freak anyone else out? It was almost horror movieish how fake they looked.
One issue: How could Dano's character get as old as he is without anyone finding out that he's color blind? I remember the doctor testing me for that when I was in first grade as part of the required check-up.

Wow! Look at those reviews. Between this and the critic reviews, I'm really looking forward to this. It's playing an hour away from me right now, so no matter what, I'll be checking it out within the next two weeks.
It didn't appear from the trailer to be HAHA funny. Is the love for this because of the comedy being so funny or something else?
