Hubby is having a guys' night out (heh) so my girlfriend is coming and we are so watching The Notebook again tonight. I just looooove it so much, heh.

It'd be funny if his 'guys' night out' was him and his friends watching The Notebook, heh.

Psh, of course.

This one is fantastic. A pearl amongst it's genre (i.e.: romance) - I loved it!

If you consider yourself to have at least one romantic bone in your body/lifetime, then you owe it to yourself to see The Notebook - the writer(s) have clearly studied all the emotional dynamics and story elements of the classic romance and woven them all together into this totally amped-out ultra-romance. If this one doesn't make you cry like a baby, you are one seriously too serious human unit.

One review I read described it as "Titanic without the boat" and I suppose that isn't far off, and I'd wager that this film will become an all-time romantic classic!

Go see it with someone you love. Go see it. Go!

Poignant, beautiful, and excellent performances all-around (Rachel McAdams deserved at least a Golden Globe nom). It's a genuine crowd-pleaser.

I almost suffocated from all the syrup. When I wasn't laughing, that is. Rachel McAdams gave an awfully sweet, down-to-earth performance though; she deserves better.

Great movie with strong performances all the way around. Rachel McAdams is the real deal, but Ryan Gosling was quite good as well. Joan Allen remains one of the most underrated actresses working today. She can take a small throwaway role and make it memorable. My grade: A-.

Rachel McAdams shines in this epic romance. It was a very touching and romantic movie. All other performances are solid as well. But I think it had a little too much syrup. Otherwise, this is one very solid movie. B

Unlike, say, Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood, I don't think the film did so great of a job drawing connections between the old characters of the present and the young characters of the past. I never really saw any of Ryan Gosling's character reflected in James Garner's performance and same for McAdams/Rowlands. I'm not going to fault the acting for that, though; that should have been taken care of in the writing department. I was also not a big fan of the ending, which I found to be very reminiscent of those chain e-mails people send to each other about the old man who never told the terminally ill woman he loved her until with her on her deathbed.

It still got to me, though.

And though contrary to what I expected, I was much more interested in the McAdams/Gosling flashbacks than the Garner/Rowlands scenes. I even thought the younger two did an even better acting job than the former two (Gena Rowlands never had me convinced with her performance, and I remember there being a couple scenes in the nursing home that were just kind of ridiculous).

Really pretty camera work, too.

DK, I think the young performers probably tried not to reflect the older performers in their performances and vise-versa because the audience really wasn't supposed to be sure who they really were. It's pretty obvious, but I still had a slight bit of doubt until I found out who McAdams' character chose at the end. I agree that Rowlands wasn't that great but I guess when your the director's mother you can get by with a little.

No, actually, I didn't. Was just saying I thought it did a better job in the characterization department (in tying flashbacks and present day scenes together).

It was just on Encore.

Even though I kind of own it, I can never pass up the urge to watch at least part of it.

Waaaaaay too maudlin and melodramatic for my tastes, I can't possibly count how many times I was rolling my eyes at the sappy, obvious plot developments during the movie. grade - C

Ryan Gosling goes to my school gym regularly and Rachel McAdams has been there twice with him.. I've seen him only once though. Just said that in case any hardcore Toronto fan wants to stalk

But this movie was really good, the ending though it was kind of corny was tastefully done. A-

I was finally forced to see this not too long ago, or "I was notebooked" as my girlfriend says (I'm pretty sure no one else uses that phrase, or do they?), and it was really good. All 4 "leads" were great, especially Garner and McAdams. McAdams is the next Julia Roberts.

Seriously, it's bad. The acting is just... atrocious. Or maybe it's just the completely inept screenplay/dialogue. Either way, I was laughing about 90% of the time.
