And Scarecrow is actually written pretty shittily; Murphy is just fantastic as him. Quote for truth. Murphy stole every scene he was in.

 Re: Batman Begins
I think my biggest current problem with Batman Begins is the amount of credit the "realism" gets in this movie, and it's hard to feel that when Batman is doing wire work beyond his poor little gun's ability, when the Batmobile is flying all over buildings, the obviously CG'ed/modeled "Narrows" (which looks like nothing in a major American city in 2005) and the silly plot with the water... seriously, if the water supply was tainted, wouldn't the first person who had a shower go nuts as the hot water turned to steam???? I mean, the "make you go insane" toxin was stretching it enough.
I do hope that The Dark Knight injects a little more realism that the Batfans claim this one has. As that is what this series is supposed to be, a super-realistic take on superheroes.
It's still not bad. The first half is easily better.

The movie isn't about him "finding himself". It's about Batman.
Him "finding himself" was the SMALLEST part of the movie and had little effect.

Him "finding himself" was the SMALLEST part of the movie and had little effect. I wholeheartedly agree. He was never a spoilt rich kid. That was the whole basis of the character. He is this uber rich kid yet according to him always, his life ended when he was 8 after which, he was never sure about how to handle his parent's death. At best, Bruce was always lost about how to deal and do with his life given his parent's death created this void in him that he needed to fill someway. He knew what his goal has always been .. to find something that fill that void. Thats the biggest tragedy of the Bat character. Becoming Batman is the only thing that ever stops him from falling further into the shadows and the only thing that ever keeps him sane. But till the very end, hes never able to fill the void. If he was, he'd put the mantle down that very day.

Ugh, don't get me started on this one. It was complete crap with a wasted great cast (except the "I used to be cute but now I'm like really annoying" Katie Holmes). Good thing for The Dark Knight which seems amazing.

 Re: Batman Begins
I gave it A because its rare you get a Superhero film with any real acting.
Great film could have been better but is easily one of the best superhero film in recent years.

It is a fun comic book film with outstanding acting from Christian Bale.
B+/A- (I believe that TDK will be much better than this)

 Re: Batman Begins
Saw it again for the first time since its theatricaL reLease. I thought it was a totaL snorefest the first time but it improved a Lot by second viewing as I caught on the many parts I missed and totaLLy forgot. I have to say that I wasn't bLown away by the fiLm Like most peopLe here were and it's just in the same League as the first two Batman movies. StiLL, it may be quite Late but this has raised my anticipation big time for TDK.

It's still not bad. The first half is easily better. Batman 89 is just as realistic IMO... Joker's Smiley chemicals are as plausible if not moreso than the Scarecrow's crazy juice (I haven't seen BB since it came out, does he have powers past the juice?), and the action sequences and rules are probably more in check than say, BB's climax or the Tumbler escape.

 Re: Batman Begins
The poll says I gave this an A. Which I really don't remember doing unless I gave it an A by mistake.
Anyway, I liked it, BUT, it just seemed.... too realistic for me, and I didn't want that. Much better than Batman Forever and Batman and Robin, but not Barman or Batman Returns, especially Batman Returns.

 Re: Batman Begins
I hate stupid fake comic book films like Batman Returns and Batman/Robin and such.
Its like watching a bad circus act sometimes.

 Re: Batman Begins
I enjoyed it in the summer of '05. I tried to watch this quite a few times in the last couple of weeks, for what would have been the first time since the theatre. I regret to say I have not been able to get through it; it's a snooze.
I was going to outsmart the movie yesterday; I started at the half-way point. Still, I ended up putting something else on before the end. What a shame.
Fingers crossed for The Dark Knight. I like what I'm hearing.

 Re: Batman Begins
I watched this again just a few hours before going to see TDK, and while I got through it without any problem, it's not as amazing as I remembered. I mean, it's a very good film, but it's also occasionally tedious, self-important, etc.

 Re: Batman Begins
I felt it was a little boring and bland at times. Batman is a fasconating character, and from a technical stand point, they did justice to his story, but where Batman gets really juicy is through his rogue gallery and then some of the Batman romances (only in the Bruce Timm versions mind you as none of the movie romances have been interesting bar the Dark Knight's obssesive romance).

 Re: Batman Begins
This is a difficult film to pull off, and Nolan did it very nicely. He had to clean up after Batman and Robin's mess, and re-set the foundations for an immensely well known figure and the universe he inhabits.
Much of what makes sense in The Dark Knight does so because of Batman Begins. This doesn't mean that TDK doesn't work without BB, since millions have obviously seen and liked TDK without having seen BB, but having Batman Begins as part of one's background adds immeasurably to the experience of watching TDK.

 Re: Batman Begins
My beef with the film is that league of Shadows said they sacked Rome because it was getting morally bankrupt.I think after Emperor Trajan, the empire went downhill. They were like 400 years overdue. I love the film and it shows us how silly the other Batman films were.

 Re: Batman Begins
Watched this again today for the first time since it was released on DVD. It wasn't as horrible and boring as I remembered it. It was actually decent this time around. Just not nearly as great as the other two in this series.
I'd give it a 6/10 (B-).

 Re: Batman Begins
I watched this 5 times in theater. Immediately when I saw it, it was my favorite superhero movie ever. It's so well done and in depth. You actually get to see what Bruce Wayne tries to accomplish when he's facing enemies as Batman. He himself knows that he is a vulnerable human being, but he tries to become a terrible thought in the head of his enemies. That way, they don't know what is going on: they see lights going out, they hear strange noises all around them, their friends are taken out one by one by some mysterious thing, etc.

Interesting that Batman Begins scored a 3.64 (out of 4.00) average in KJ ratings, while Man Of Steel scored 21% lower at a 2.87 average.
