It makes me worried for what he's got next. i completely agree with everything except jackie brown. i still think that's his worst. Good to see someone agrees that Reservoir Dogs not Pulp fiction was his masterpiece.

 Re: Grindhouse
I missed this in theatres and haven't had the time to commit to sitting down and watching them back to back, so I can only comment on the individual films.
I liked Planet Terror quite a bit, but I don't think it's a great movie. In fact, I think it's a little inferior to Death Proof. It's a hell of a lot of fun and fully embraces its B-movie origin, but there are times when it feels like Rodriguez is going to unnecessary extremes to make it cheesy. The section where they're imprisoned, minus Cherry Darling getting her machine gun leg, is quite the low point. When will everyone learn that casting Quentin Tarrantino is an absolutely horrendous idea? Nevertheless, there's plenty of bang- and blood- for your buck. Grade: B+
I liked Death Proof just a bit better. It's definitely not Tarrantino's strongest work (of what I've seen- just missing Jackie Brown- I think it's his weakest), but it's damned entertaining and often without having to go to the same extremes Planet Terror goes to. The expectedly profanity-packed dialogue is fun, but the scene stealer is Kurt Russell, who is having a hell of a good time as Stuntman Mike. The second batch of girls is more interesting than the first, and the car chase is breathtaking. The film does have some slow stretches (do we really need to spend that much time at Guero's?), but makes up for them by providing solid entertainment. Grade: B+

He's self-taught and never let his fame get to him...he makes the films he likes. but I will say that Kill Bill was weaker than his first three films. I can't believe I haven't seen Grindhouse yet...when will it come out on DVD together?!

 Re: Grindhouse
I don't see how a filmmakers ability is in question when he set out to make a bad movie.
Saw Planet Terror uncut, This movie was awesome and is up there with From Dusk Til Dawn in my opinion. Forget Earl McGraw, bring back Michael Beihn's Sheriff for further films.
Planet Terror is a solid A for me Death Proof-Kurt Russell and the scenes with the cars are better than most things this year, everything else is just decent Tarantino material. B+/A-
