It wasn't the 4th of july. It took place on the beginning of the weekend.

Very disappointing. It had a few good scenes but overall it was too ridiculous and too... PG-13.

Barely. Over the top action movie, with thin characters, no original ideas, and one of the worst villains ever.

I really, really liked this movie. It was the perfect summer blockbuster: lots of great action, surprisingly good acting (Willis and especially Long were better than I expected), an involving story and lots of fun.

Equally weak as number 3. The villain was bland, the sidekick lame, the one-liners were more miss than hit and the action was too over the top. Especially the finale with the Jet and the collapsing bridge overdid it. Worse than that, they used really bad special effects for it. Plus: The bad guys acted dumber than ever in the franchise. I really can't understand what people saw in this one. It is lightyears removed from the genious that was Die Hard. B-

Shit blowing up... villains trying to screw up America... the hero's daugther being taken hostage... the hero being inhuman... more shit blowing up... yawn
Typical action movie. Pretttttyy bland and forgettable. I'm surprised at the high praise actually, most movies I like less than others I can see why, but LFODH never struck me as anything more than ordinary, I don't know.
I kind of disliked the whole hacking destroying society storyline, it just seemed far too big and far too disbelievable. I miss a time when Keanu Reeves just wanted to stop Dennis Hopper from blowing up a bus full of people.
That point also leads into another one, that it falls into the action sequel/24-syndrome of "Oh look, Jack Bauer just saved the world for the 6th time!". It was a bit too much of a coincidence that this end of the world scheme just happened to fall in John McClane's lap, just like the big save everyone scheme did to the same average cop in the last 3 movies. At least Bond and Ethan from M:I are ultimate secret agents who are picked out for these things. McClane is a regular cop who just has this normally once in a lifetime shit happen to him 4 times.
The FBI/gov't characters and dialogue were HORRIBLE. I didn't give a rats ass about them.
Timothy Olyphant did a good job, but he and his villain core were just typical villains, expected. I didn't like his whole "I'm trying to fix America!" bit followed by the revelation that he's doing it for the money...? I never "got" that character. It would've been cooler if he just wanted to destroy America due to bitterness and craziness over having no job and life. Maggie Q was purty, but I thought it was weird how she beat down Willis, then turned his back to him and didn't hear him run up to her and tackle her? What about beating the crap out of Justin Long, don't turn your back. And the car thing... please. She would be DESTROYED in that collision. Frankly he would too.
I'm a Mac was decent. But again, he was given nothing.
I probably won't remember this movie much in 6 months. C

I saw the Unrated version back when I bought it. It felt more like a Die Hard film, but I got to say with the exception of a few fucks and a couple of bloody scenes, it's pretty much the same film. That's a good thing.
I was also very surprised that the scene with Justin Long freaking out after the plant explodes hasn't been changed it all. It's just as it appeared in the PG-13 version - awkward cutting and mismatching words with his mouth and all.

It was better than I thought it would be. Kate Beckinsale's husband did a good job at keeping the movie moving at a good pace.
The dialogue was cringe inducing at times, and the situations were completely unbelievable, but it seemed to know it was ridiculous and felt like an homage to 80's action movies, which were all like that.
The only thing that bugs me is that when they have some computer genius on a movie, they can instantly do anything... you want to see a security camera in an elevator halfway across the counry? *random typing on a keyboard*... There it is!
But, again... overall it was fun. Grade: B

The Unrated is even better. Its not the Die Hard of all, but in this decade of silly action movies, This movie kicked all kinds of ass, and was a big hit, hopefully studious will continue to resonate the older style of action movies.

The DVD had the option to watch it either way, and I chose the unrated version... but, I never really noticed anything "unrated" in it. The whole "unrated" tag is thrown around far too much these days in DVD land. There should be a rule that there has to be some naked boobies and/or at least a few limbs being torn off before a movie can get labeled as "unrated".

Why I agree with you, the Unrated of LFODH has a lot of differences. Not much more violence wise, but better takes and alternate scenes, as well as a lot of fucks and motherfuckers in there. I refuse to watch the PG-13 version again.

You make me curious to see the theaterical version now just to find the differences. However, it sounds to me more like a "director's cut" rather than an "unrated" version. I'll bet my bottom dollar that the "unrated" tag sells more copies, and that's why they did that.

So, to clarify... I personally am not rooting for mutliple limbs being ripped off during a movie, I just want a better standard to the "unrated" tag. Back in the day when something was "unrated" there were boobs everywhere and/or buckets of blood. These days you get 1 or 2 extra "fucks" and a few recut scenes. I'm just thinking of the children... those poor children that think they are getting some wild unrated movie, only to get it home and hear an extra "motherfucker". ![:( :(](./images/smilies/sad.gif)

An extremely fun, action-packed and funny summer blockbuster. One of the best installments in the Die Hard franchise, and Justin Long was surprisingly great.

Well, not always. I actually saw this and Transformers back-to-back in theatres last year, and I found this one to be a lot better (perhaps because I saw it first). But now, after rewatching both on DVD, I liked Transformers a lot more and this one a lot less. So who knows.

Did you watch the unrated, I can't watch the theatrical version anymore, but I think the R rated version is still quite great with the exception of the way over the top jet sequence.

I did watch the unrated, and I found nothing different other than fucks instead of friggins. And yeah, I liked Transformers a lot more than I did the first time around. I just don't think this is a movie that holds up well.
