Well, Iron Man's first move was to catch the nuke, then he had the idea to fling it up. Basically Thor flying it out would've taken a nuke baton pass, plus in the spur of the moment with time running out it's reasonable that they didn't think of making that pass for the same reason 95% of people who saw this movie didn't think of it

Just remembered something that bugged me. How did Thor return to Earth? They never explained it. Breaking the rainbow bridge was a huge moment in the first film. He sacrificed getting Natalie Portman poon to stop his brother from destroying the ice giants.

Isn't there one throwaway line explaining it? "Father almost destroyed himself summoning enough power to open this portal!"

 Re: The Avengers
It was fun. A bit wobbly at the start, the Loki arrival and escape wasn't as well done as it could have been. But it more than made up for that with the extended, amusing climactic battle which was way better than the similar territory covered by transformers 3.
Extra points for the most likable performance I've ever seen from Gwyneth Paltrow.

 Re: The Avengers
I was really underwhelmed. Also, how was Thor less useful than Captain America? What did Captain Americano again?
I thought it was a notch above, like, Pirates 2/3 but well below Iron Man or Batman, unless you take the final third as a standalone movie. The rest of it had too much dialogue (which explained nothing) -- and I didn't track the first scene where the avengers act independently and collapse (ie, first Hulk appearance)

 Re: The Avengers
Yeah, so I didn't see Thor before this, and yeah, I was lost for the first portion of the movie. My brother who hadt seen neither Thor nor Capitain America was even more lost than I. Regardless, once the action started up, or rather once the action on the air fortress began, the movie became interesting. Before that, without Robert Downey Jr., it would have been pretty awful. However, as has been reiterated numerous times throughout this thread, the action in the second half of the movie made this a memorable film, moreso than the previous Marvel endevours.
Also, on a side note, why all the Captain America hate? He's one of my favorite Avengers, well, that is to say, I liked him more than Thor, Hackeye, and Bruce Banner, on par with Hulk and Black Widow, but below Iron Man. He's so vital to the team. Yeah Tony Stark might have kept the film together, but Captain America makes the Avengers ensemble work. He's the quarterback of the team.

David wrote: Such nonsense is even more frustrating when more interesting avenues, such as the nuances of Captain America's mental state after rousing from decades of frozen slumber to find an unfamiliar and even more hostile world, are left unexplored. Perhaps this is to be explored in the Captain America sequel proper. David wrote: I was disappointed Hayley Atwell's Captain America character wasn't mentioned in any meaningful way. Could've been so poignant to see Steve inquiring as to her fate during those lost years. imdb wrote: According to director Joss Whedon, the original cut of the movie was over 3 hours long. There will be about 30 minutes of the excised footage included in the DVD Release, most of which revolves around Steve Rogers (Captain America). Whedon revealed that one of these scenes involved Rogers struggling to adjust to the modern world in his Brooklyn apartment and another revealed Steve Rogers' reunion with Peggy Carter, his love interest from Captain America: The First Avenger. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0848228/trivia

 Re: The Avengers
I thought it was OK. I still prefer Thor and Captain America I think. Though Joss did a good job overall. Its not easy to tie up all these movies into one big ensemble movie.
I also loved how often Buffy related stuff popped up. Especially in the opening scene which was basically a recycled final scene of Buffy.

I agree with Darth, CA was pretty good in this film and I think he was much better then in his solo film.

 Re: The Avengers
I cannot understand what the fuss is all about. It was a pretty good movie, pretty entertaining. But it was mostly a FX-driven movie, completely forgettable. The story is not particularly interesting and the character development is pretty basic. And there is something incredibly ridiculous in the idea of calling a bunch of superheroes to stop an alien invasion, particularly when there is such a big difference of power between these superheroes. Thor could easily smash every one of them in a matter of seconds, yet the movie insists on telling us that they're all equally important.
I simply cannot understand how people can compare a special effects festival like this to Nolan's Batman series, where the character development and the story are not only present, but actually interesting.

 Re: The Avengers
The point is if you go and watch every movie and expect to be it a Nolan level, you will likley hate 99% of the films you watch.
In the end people like Nolan films but they like to be simply entertained as well.
TA has shown to be easily the most entertaining film in years to audiences.
I agree the story is nothing good, but it was a lot of fun...
I haven't had so much fun watching a movie in a while and that is why I and many others like this film. Its simply fun.
Comparing it to Nolan is pointless. The most epic scenes in TDK are not the action scenes its the acting scenes really. That is why TDK is held in such high regard...

 Re: The Avengers
Agreed, the action scenes have for the most part sucked in Nolan's franchise (though most superhero films surprisingly suck in the action department other than the X-Men films)
Comparing TDK to TA is like comparing a one night stand to a deep intimate session. Both have their merits and disadvantages.

 Re: The Avengers
Well I'm not one of those people who view TDK as the best movie ever made. It has flaws. But it and Batman Begins are definitely the best superhero movies ever made IMO, precisely because they actually have some kind of content instead of being an empty shell.

 Re: The Avengers
I agree and I think many people who liked TA think TDK is better.
Its just TA was a lot of fun and better then a lot of the recent blockbusters and sequels recently.

 Re: The Avengers
The Avengers has solid acting in it, I felt like each of the actors slipped into their roles very well, and Whedon did a good job at making most of them seem interesting. But unlike in the first Iron Man where Robert Downey Jr. (who did, once again, nails down his character in the Avengers) rocked his character in such a way that the acting scenes themselves were the most interesting aspect, the Avengers did not have memorable scenes with the acting. Yeah sure, some of the Iron Man scenes in the Avengers had witty and fun dialogue, but it was the action scenes that left the most memorable impression. As such, I prefer Iron Man over the Avengers.

 Re: The Avengers
IM1 and TA are quite similar.
They are not divisive films or anything.
They are either okay and mediocre or tons of fun!

A
The Avengers is good, but not "best superhero film of all time". It's not better than TDK or TDKR, imo.
In the end, I put it slightly ahead of Iron Man - which was difficult in itself.

 Re: The Avengers
The film is incredibly pleasing...
Watching the film at home, the battle was just tooo much fun to watch.
It reminded me as a kid watching all those Star Wars Space Battles and I would grin.
Movie has some flaws but pure simple entertainment is what this film is and thats why it became the film that dominated 2012.

 Re: The Avengers
There are so many stupid moments in this. For example: why would Loki's trap threat be dropping 30,000 feet to Earth?? 1. loki obviously wouldnt die.... 2. The Avengers are the ones who want Loki. WHY would they just get rid of him? If Loki smart and wanted to escape....he'd just scratch the cage and escape when the cage falls. what a retarded idea.

Do we need to get in the many many many many many many many many .... many confusing plot points in TDKR... "Hey Look I am a cool Villain but actually I am nobody, the real villain is this boring lady" "hey I escaped a nuclear blast with only 5 seconds to spare" Lets not even try...

many confusing plot points in TDKR... Actually, yeah we do. Because I think you'll find that in terms of "confusing plot points", Avengers wins by a wide margin.
