Oh one more thing, I agree with Mad that the trailers were a bit disappointing... only because they were seemingly in on the joke, particularly with Satan's Alley. It should've been brilliant, but with the "MTV's best kiss winner" thing, the music, and the title, it came off more as an SNL skit. It would've been funnier if they went dead serious and actually tried to make a trailer real studio's would. Fatties Fart 2 came off the best for me because it actually felt legit, as a comedy the sillyness fit it.

I actually don't think the fake trailers were there to really mock the industry or the movies - that was just an additional punch (and not so good one in my opinion too).

To me they were more of a background material for each of the main lead actors in the movie and they really did set up their peronalities quite good with trailers only. Stiller's Speedman was a Schwarzenegerish/Stalloneish type that after a million and one sequel went for a serious role in hopes of general critical acclaim and some awards, Black's Portnoy was like Eddie Murphy type low grade fart humor guy and again went or some critical acclaim, while RDJ's Lazarus was a critically acclaimed god of the industry, sorta built on DDL and oher "get-inside the character's skin" actors.

The trailers were there more because they were part of the movie, than because it would be cool to have them.

As for the movie itself.

8/10 -> B

While some parts and jokes fall flat, there is more han enough good things in other parts of the movie to make up for that.

Kudos to RDJ and Tom Cruise. They were both great. RDJ obviously better as his character was probably the most juciest character of the season yet and he pulled him off magnificently.

Was amused, and enjoyed Robert Downey, Jr. but movie as a movie was a bit lame, uninteresting and just not that funny. C

Also, why are people calling Tom Cruise's role cameo?

this movie catered to the same type of crowd that was Entourage.

a lot of non-american posters here gave it the thumbsdown. which is good to see.

A huge mess, one that exhausted any and all sharp satiric ideas in the first 15 minutes. Maybe 10 minutes.

Meh, I'm disapointed. Most of the jokes fell flat and there were some painfully long sequences where I got bored out of my mind. It didn't helped that Jack Black is about the most annoying actor on this planet. God, I hated him in this one. Some stuff did work though, and was pretty hilarious like 2 of the trailers (the rest sucked), the Panda stuff or Tom Cruise. I just expected to have way more fun than I had. C

Zohan or Step Brothers may be funnier movies this year but what gives it the edge is that it was not as stupid as those. The pLot got a LittLe uninteresting at times and it makes me feeL stupid that I didn't get some of the things that went on. Tom Cruise' "Low" scene, the stuff on SimpLe Jack and the fake traiLers were great, though.

I tried to rewatch this and had to shut it off after 30 minutes. I'm employing no hyperbole when I say this is one of the worst movies of the decade.

Agreed. The more I think about the film the more I dislike it. I have absolutely no desire to watch this again.

I seriously didn't get how this is "funny". I few jiggles here and there but not laugh out loud funny. Ok I guess.

I've seen this like four times now, and I do feel like it gets better with each viewing, but that it's definitely the least funny of the summer comedies (Pineapple Express and Step Brothers).

Oh, and that "I'm a lead farmer, mother fucker" is not a funny line at all.
