This one could've been better, performances were amazing though.

7/10 (B-)

This was a really weird movie. A week later and I still haven't really osrted out my thoughts. I'd give it an A- right now. GREAT performances. Simply stellar.

THE DOOR IN THE FLOOR is a moving tale of loss, adultery and self-discovery. When a teenage boy (Jon Foster) travels for the summer to the home of author Ted Cole (Jeff Bridges), he soon finds himself having an affair with Cole's wife Marion (Kim Basinger), a woman aged by the incomprehensible depression she went through after the death of her two sons. Jon Foster gives a great debut performance here, portraying his character as an innocent who slowly becomes corrupted. Jeff Bridges also does a good job as well. The real scene-stealers though are Kim Basinger, who portrays her role with a lot of heart and emotion, and the adorable Elle Fanning, who plays the couple's 4-year-old daughter. The real flaws that the film suffers from are pointless supporting characters. Some backstories aren't clear and this makes these characters harder to follow. Other than that, it's a good movie that's definitely worth a rent.

7/10 ( B )

Its alright. Sort of a letdown. If nothing else is on.... the performances are pretty good... the rest not so much.

Yeah pretty much, amazing performances (even Mimi Rogers in a small role), other than that, I thought the film was sort of a let down and emotionally distant.

I really don't know what to think of this, so far. Should be almost over, I think.

Yup. It's been a year, and I still haven't sorted it out.

Thank god for the search button.

Well, I thought it was a wonderful little film (haven't read the novel, but to think that it's only a part of the book, woah!). Slow-paced, yes, but I was hypnotised the whole time. Really. And as some critic said, it's a movie that isn't afraid to use silence (and long shots).

Kim Basinger, Jeff Bridges and the screenplay were robbed that year. They were so much better than 90% of the nominees.
