Very much agreed on that one. So much build-up and the scene doesn't pay it off, even though what is actually shown, is beautiful. are-why-a-en wrote: -Maybe just an OUNCE of color during the slaughter in the House of Blue tea leaves of whatever Watch the Japanese version for color oo00h. Thanks. I didnt even know theer WAS a japanese version? Does it make the biggest difference like I hope?
Uh... minor spoilers.
I've seen the uncut version of V.1 from Japan. Basically the only things different are the Crazy 88 fight is in color (mixed in with a couple of encounters), the anime has a couple of more seconds, and you see Sophie's other hand getting cut off. These will probaly all be on the Special Edition coming out soon supposedly...

Both of these movies are great. Awesome fight scenes, great comeback role from Carradine, and Madsen is one of my favortie actors out there right now. Not better than Resevior Dogs, but gets a little more love from me over Pulp Fiction.
Volume 1-A
Voulme 2-A
Even though both are the same grade Volume 2 is a bit better, just because of Madsen.

Kill Bill Volume I - B+
Kill Bill Volume II - A-
Together - A-
The biggest compliment I can pay Quentin Tarantino is watching this you feel his love for movies. As good as Uma Thurman was (and I'm not a fan), Daryl Hannah steals every scene she's in....and Elle didn't die. I hope she comes back for Volume III!

That being said, it breaks the rules, with the first half being the frenetic action packed portion with the second developing the characters and allowing for ample dialogue. The film occupies the #3 position in my all-time favorite films. A+
Re-watching Volume II tonight, and my grade definately stands.

Both films are hugely enjoyable - they're funny (frequently laugh out loud hilarious), exciting, action-packed, scary, surprising and best of all, emotionally touching. Everybody mentions his talent with dialogue but what has always impressed me about QT is how stunningly good he is with story structure. One watches almost with a sense of giddiness at the way he jumps back and forth in time, always hitting the right story points, tantalising but never confusing the audience and always keeping them off balance, never quite sure whether the next scene is going to have them shocked or laughing. The guy is a natural born filmmaker and I love the way he gives his audience all the action they want in part one before settling down for the meaty character stuff in part two.
Wonderful too, the way the Bride's character arc takes her from killer to mother over the course of the story and the way Bill becomes a sympathetic figure in the final reel. We may not agree with what he did but we sure as hell understand why he did it. This, along with the agonising sense of loss conveyed by Uma Thurman's character in part one, e.g., the scene where she wakes up in the hospital and realises her child's been taken, is why I will never buy these accusations about QT being nothing more than a souless rip off artist. As fantastic and unreal as the world of Kill Bill is, underneath its dazzling surface there's a genuine human drama about motherhood and family being worked out that packs a real emotional punch. I don't think anything can sum it up better than Roger Ebert did when he reviewed Kill Bill 2 and called QT 'the most brilliantly oddball filmmaker of his generation.'

I'm afraid this is somewhat of a difficult poll to vote from given the fact that both KILL BILL Vol 1 and 2 are radically different from one another despite being from the same story.. Vol 1 is definitely more action oriented and totally took my breath away at The House of Blue Leaves and gave me a hardon and total respect for female superhero's like The Bride.. Vol 2 though was good, but it was, well, different in terms of more focusing on Bill and his motives and the action was few and far between.. Elle Driver getting her eye ball ripped out and left in the trailer with the Black Mamba was cool though and I also wanted more of a Climatic Battle between Bill and The Bride and less chit chat for a guy leaving her nearly dead.... Right now, I'd give KILL BILL Vol 1 an "A" and Vol 2 a "B"..

I think I'll give a B+ grade to the combination of the two. On one hand they're enjoyable movies, and the action is good, but are they full on masterpieces? Nah. Honestly despite Thurmans performances, I didn't really care for her character, and especially in Vol. 2 with all the emotional stuff at the end it just didn't work as much for me. Also, I'm not sure how I feel about the unrealistic flying asians everywhere in Vol. 1, it took away from the believability of it big time.
I give the edge to the first one, because it was just a lot of fun and pure entertainment. I had a really good time watching it, as a movie without a backing story.
Vol. 1 - A-
Vol. 2 - B
I maintain that True Romance is better than this or Pulp Fiction though, maybe it's because he didn't direct that one. I haven't seen Jackie or Resevoir Dogs so I can't really grade him as a whole, but I can't say that I love the his stamp that he puts on his movies.

I think the second kill bill gets better with each viewing and the first stays about the same. Tarantino did a really good job, They were very close to matching pulp fiction.
