 A Complete Unknown
Quote: A Complete Unknown is a 2024 American biographical musical drama film directed by James Mangold, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jay Cocks. Based on the 2015 book Dylan Goes Electric! by Elijah Wald, the film portrays Bob Dylan through his earliest folk music success until the momentous controversy over his use of electric instruments at the 1965 Newport Folk Festival. Timothée Chalamet (who also produces) stars as Dylan, with Edward Norton, Elle Fanning, Monica Barbaro, Boyd Holbrook, Dan Fogler, Norbert Leo Butz, and Scoot McNairy in supporting roles. The film's title is derived from the chorus of Dylan's 1965 single "Like a Rolling Stone".
A Complete Unknown premiered at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on December 10, 2024, and was released in the United States by Searchlight Pictures on December 25, 2024.

 Re: A Complete Unknown
Really no one has seen this yet?
A Complete Unknown is always interesting and kept me invested the whole time. It doesn’t have a strong through line of plot and is mostly a series of scenes from an important time in his career. It’s mostly worth watching for Chalamet’s performance who has shown amazing range in the last few years. Production design, costumes and makeup are also on point.

 Re: A Complete Unknown
I was not expecting that much from this but nice surprise crowdpleaser and Timothy is very good and pulls off Bob Dylan more convincingly than I expected. He definitely could pull off an Oscar win here.
Edward Norton is also very strong in this. It's my fav performance from him in a long time. Elle Fanning is great but I'd say Monica Barbaro really shines here as Joan. The Joan / Bob dynamic was incredibly entertaining.

 Re: A Complete Unknown
It feels pretty low key as it doesn't quite feel like he becomes one of the most famous people in the world and it's built around his Archie Andrews/Ben Affleck love triangle and showing how they can never get a full grip on him, but I guess that's more interesting than just running through the wikipedia events. It understands short timeframe is best for biopics and doesn't force it to get to motorcycle crash, Guthrie actually dying or Baez writing Diamonds and Rust. Chalamet does great considering the difficulty of making an A lister feel like Bob Dylan, Norton as Seeger was perfect and both girls worked. It will probably go down mostly for the lead actor performance but a decent watch overall.
