 Re: Recount
Does anyone know how we can watch if we don't have HBO?
It'll probably be up on YouTube shortly after, no?

 Re: Recount
If anything, it's sure to get a DVD release eventually.
Is it a movie or is it a documentary narrated by Spacey?

 Re: Recount
Entertainment Weekly gave it a glowing review. I'm really looking forward to it, actually. I can't believe it's been almost 8 years, but the Florida recount will go down in history as one of the most divisive battles in US electoral history. The Clinton-Obama spat was nothing compared to this.

 Re: Recount
I haven't seen a television film get reviews this good since Angels in America came out.

I'm so there. LOL! I saw some random clips on YouTube and that is one of the main reasons why I really want to see it! Was this Harris chick really that weird?

 Re: Recount
I watched. I thought it was pretty great.
Like all the positive reviews stated, despite the fact that we already know the outcome it's still amazingly riveting and edge-of-your-seat kind of stuff. Sure, it's skewed towards the "Gore=good, Bush=not good' POV but I honestly don't really see how Bush could ever be painted as the guy to root for. It's an underdog story, and as Gore was the underdog in that instance in time, it's his side we root for.
Gore and Bush themselves aren't involved here, really. It's about the guys/girls on the ground in FLA for both sides. Kevein Spacey had such a passion and presence here and I enjoyed seeing him not be the seedy guy/villain/etc again. It seems like it's been a while. Laura Dern is top-notch, and in a few moments of solitude you can see the way her Katherine Harris thought and how she came to the decisions she did.
There's really far too many people in the cast to go on about how each of them was so awesome, but I didn't find any weak spot. The only thing that, while not a "con" was definitely amusing, was how Leary would pretty much sound like Denis Leary most of the time but then a MA "a" would pop in every now and again.
As for the facts, I can honestly say I don't remember much about the 2000 election (only 13 at the time) but I don't doubt most of the facts on display here. Sure, the characterizations are realistically not 100% by any means, but the facts are the facts for the most part.
Good stuff.

 Re: Recount
Recount is a solid, engaging yet slightly un-remarkable little movie filled with wonderful performances. The movie does a really good job boiling down all the minutia surrounding the 2000 presidential campaign into easily digestible bites. And should be a worthwhile watch regardless of your political persuasion. But I felt the film fell a tad bit short on the character development aspect. As already noted Spacey owned his role and I would've liked to have learned more about his character as well as a few others. But this is just my small gripe with an otherwise entertaining and enjoyable film.
