 Re: The Simpsons Movie
'Ello ladies.
Well, I thought it was fine. It was like a really long episode of the Simpsons, except I was eating peanut M&Ms.
I've seen better Simpsons, and I've seen worse.
It made me laugh out loud twice. Firstly, actually showing Bart Simpson's willy was (especially in the context of the old objects-conveniently-covering-penis-at-all-times sketch) the most unexpected and funny thing I've seen in ages.
Secondly, the bomb disposal robot made me chuckle.
The rest of it was never boring, so I can't complain. A couple of things bothered me slightly tho'. First of all, the self-referentialism. "That's right... we're even advertising in movies now." There's something about this kind of humour that's incredibly patronising. You can imagine the smug smirk of the writer as he types that - imagining us mere mortals hyperventilating to the point of a near-death experience, going "AHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!!!!!!! Oh my God!!!! They're making fun of their own selves!!!!!!!!!! HAHHAAA!! ARGHAHARGH!!! Oh my god!!! Their own selves!!!!!!!!!! They're simultanously making us laugh and earning our love with their self-deprecation!! How refreshingly frank!!!!! - etc., etc.."
We're not that predictable: we won't roll our eyes and faint with sheer comic astonishment, simply because these guys are just regular Joes and can point out their own foibles.
My other problem was, we've been getting to know these characters since we were kids. When they suddenly start fitting the cinematic demands of conflict and resolution, it feels artificial (especially Bart).
Overall, a B. Fun, fine, should've been a lot better. It says a lot that the Southpark movie was a more important cinematic event. It was fine, but let's face it - there's been better and more imaginative episodes of the show (e.g., Bart selling his soul, Homer eating the hallucinogenic chilli, etc., etc.).

 Re: The Simpsons Movie
I actually thought Bart was the best part of the show dramatically.

 Re: The Simpsons Movie
I was pleasantly surprised by the movie. Better than their recent seasons for sure.
Nothing even remotely as funny as anything from the first 6 or 7, but it had its moments.
Only 2 cameos, I was shocked to my very core. Usually they have at least 2 per episode.
Some funny bits. Some good animation. It was decent.

 Re: The Simpsons Movie
I did some counting.
Bumblebeeman appeared in 8 scenes. Only 1 of which was he necessary. There may have been 2 NEW people in crowds. After that, just a bunch of characters from past shows.
You know, Bublebeeman took off his suit in an earlier episode when he was living his non TV life. WHY is he wearing the suit in every scene?

Does the Bumblebee Man still speak in Spanish in the Spanish version?

 Re: The Simpsons Movie
C+
I find some new episodes much more fun. The movie started great with all that "I think you're all idiots for paying money to see something that you get free on TV" Home speech. But that dome and the story around it was ridiculos. Though family drama was surprisingly awesome...

One of my most anticipated movies opf all time turned out to be one of the most disappointing ones as well. While a little notch above the current seasons, it still by far does not reach the greatness of The Simpsons' Golden Age.
If they had put together the funniest scenes of the movie, it would have made an excellent 30-minutes episode. As it is, however, despite some briliant jokes, parts of the movie lag and some jokes fall flat. The whole thing seems a bot overstretched. I did like some in-jokes, like Homer oaughing about those who were seeing it at theatres, hehe.
What made the series so great am,ong other things, were the great quirky side characters. Sadly, most of them are severely lacking screentime in the film. The movie is obviously build around the Simpsons family and Homer more than anything else. Sadly, however, this time around I did not find Homer particulary funny most of the time. I was missing the likes of Skinner, Burns and Smithers whose screentime was way too limited. Instead we got the unnecessary Lisa love-story.
That said, it was a solid comedy, just very disappointing in regards to my expectations. Maybe a sequel can improve on this films' failings!

I saw it again today. I have to lower my grade to a B+. It just wasn't as good the second time.

 Re: The Simpsons Movie
I missed out on reviewing this because of my hiatus which has now evolved into "posting late at night but trying not to at other times", but anyways
I'm definitley in the chorus of the first 20 minutes being gold, with the rest evolving into standard present-day Simpsons, with funny moments scattered along. I'm one of the few that still enjoys the show nowadays, it's not as funny as it used to be, but the storylines are still coherent and somewhat interesting... but this really did feel like a long episode.
The Marge-Homer relationship issues kind of bored me. It's a valiant effort, but through 18 seasons that storyline has already repeated itself many many times. I did like Bart's arc. Lisa's was terribly stuffed in, literally I think the only reason it was in there was because someone said "Hey, let's give Lisa a storyline! All the other Simpsons have one, we can't leave her out!" ... Lisa is my favorite Simpson, so I was disappointed on the random crappiness of the Colin thing.
And yeah, the supporting characters. A rundown Skinner and Edna... Other than the Green Day concert, did they even appear, and did they have any lines in the movie? Totally MIA. Burns and Smithers... one non-credits scene Abu... Same scene Barney... Fell into a lake Krusty... Couple lines Wiggum and Ralph - In it and pure gold, best part of the movie Flanders - I like him more when he's a joke character
The motorcycle ending was also weak.
Anyways, B-/C+ . I enjoyed myself, but nothing more. Considering I really liked the South Park, Beavis and Butthead, and Spongebob Squarepants movies, this probably stands as one of the more disappointing tv to movie animation entries actually, though the track record has been solid for them.

 Re: The Simpsons Movie
My review of it.
I like the fact that it didn't be anything but an extendend episode, and it parodies that brilliantly. It was one of the most consistenly funny movies this year, with lots of inside hollywood jokes that kept me laughing the whole way through. Although South Park was still a better movie, because it had a well put together screenplay while Simpsons lacks in a real plot. Still, it was worth it.
Grade: A-

 Re: The Simpsons Movie
South Park: Bigger, Longer, Uncut was definitely a better-written and funnier film and I bet that had the South Park movie been released today, it would probably have grossed $90+ million.
