Re: Joker 2 predictions
Mmm I don't really see the need to bump the budget to $150m damn dollars unless the setpieces are extravagant but we'll see!

Re: Joker 2 predictions
Here's a short scene from the set in LA on Youtube. Though I have no context on what its about, even seeing human form of Phoenix's character running away from the Joker form is making me excited about this one. It's coming together. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zD_SNisJ_20

Re: Joker 2 predictions
Feel like this is the next viral mega smash waiting to happen. Lady Gaga as Harley Quinn MIGHT be the most commercially friendly casting in a superhero film since Nicholson as Joker back in 1989. The buzz here will be deafening.

Re: Joker 2 predictions
First reports are that there are at least FIFTEEN cover songs in this and what will likely be 1-2 originals. One is said to be “That’s Entertainment” from the 1953 musical “The Band Wagon,” famously associated with Judy Garland. Will be jukebox musicals like Moulin Rouge and Mamma Mia. The budget of the first was $60M. This film's budget is $200M. If they pull it off it's going to be epic. Seems like a brand new film from the original though with such a different tone. Best song, sound, actress, actor, picture, director, screenplay, music (score), visual effects, costume, cinematography, editing, makeup/hair, production design seem like they could get some nods and possibly some supporting nods too. Feels like it could possibly break Titanic's nomination record if its good. If they make her sing nearly 15+ songs in a single movie seems Gaga is going to be a big contender for best actress next year. The hype OW will be huge but how will moviegoers react not just to a semi musical but a 15+ song musical is another question. I think the virality will be there any I can't rationalize WB more than tripling the budget on this unless they were super confident in the direction it was going in. https://variety.com/2024/film/news/joke ... 235949284/

Re: Joker 2 predictions
This may be even bigger than I expected (was thinking $500M).
Saw this on X:
Joker 2 poster has been seen 14 million times in just 10 HOURS on one Twitter account, comparing it to other major releases first poster posts, these numbers are INCREDIBLE.
For comparison, DP3 was at 2.1M, Wicked 714K, Dune 2 1.9M.
DP3 will be big but starting to feel like it may not be able to take the year. Feels like an animated film might (Inside Out 2, Mufasa, Despicable Me 4) but giving an edge to Joker 2 right now.

Re: Joker 2 predictions
Times are still bleak, people are still down ... Joker 2's success will be a reflection of that. Is Joker now the people's champ? It is amusing if you look at the trend of declining superhero films and the uptick in villain films. Joker movies, The Penguin TV series, even Venom, as shitty as those films are, have succeeded so much that they've managed to crank out THREE!
Deadpool is a meta, sarcastic option that doesn't really fit into hero or villain. Black Adam could've been bigger if it wasn't Dwayne Johnson, a star that is synonymous with heroics and being on the side of good. He just wasn't dark enough.

Teaser is excellent. If all goes well this should open well over $120m.

Re: Joker 2 predictions
Joker (2019) now adjusts to $118M. We've only ever seen 6 $90M+ R-rated OW's (adjusted tallies in brackets below). Here are the 15 R-rated films that have done $70M+ unadjusted openings.
1 Deadpool $132,434,639 ($171.7M) 2 Deadpool 2 $125,507,153 ($154.5M) 3 It $123,403,419 ($154.2) 4 Joker $96,202,337 ($117.7M) 5 Matrix 2 $91,774,413 ($170.6M)
6 It 2 $91,062,152 ($111.5M) 7 Logan $88,411,916 ($110.5M) 8 The Hangover Part II $85,946,294 ($121.5M) 9 Fifty Shades of Grey $85,171,450 ($113.3M) 10 The Passion of the Christ $83,848,082 ($151.4M)
11 Oppenheimer $82,455,420 ($85.5M) 12 Halloween $76,221,545 ($93.8M) 13 John Wick 4 $73,817,950 ($76.6M) 14 Us $71,117,625 ($87.0M) 15 300 $70,885,301 ($115.5M)
The upper echelon of zeitgeist capturing R-rated movies seem to be in the $150M-172M range so that reflects that capacity that could be reached if everything goes right for Joker 2.
I'll do middle of the pack of that range. Early OW prediction $161M OW

Joker 2 trailer 167M trailer views in 24 hours, which WB said trailer and social numbers are higher than even Barbie. Below DP3 with 365 million views but they included Super Bowl viewship there. Joker was purely digital. https://variety.com/2024/film/news/joke ... 235968367/

Re: Joker 2 predictions
Weird that the 1st movie felt like an indie drama and this is a big budget spectacle. Would it receive the critical reception enough to give gaga a nom this year. Only time will tell. I thought the reason Joker became huge especially in overseas markets was that it reached out to folks who otherwise do not go to SH movies. it beat Avengers Endgame in many markets !!!

Re: Joker 2 predictions
I thought the reason it did well is because Joker is a role model to a world of incels. Falling in Love isn't going to go down well with his fan base.

Re: Joker 2 predictions
Isn't the first film about him falling in love with his neighbor (Or so we thought). The Quinn/Joker relationship has always been an integral part of the character, never really explored in the movies outside of briefly in the theatrical cut of SS. I was on the fence before, but this does look like it will do very well. Dead Pool and Joker, year of the R rated comic films, both 400+

Sort of feels like The Matrix. This very different type of storytelling and film for the times that completely surpassed every expectation. Then the sequel becomes a big commercial event after the first made so much $$$. Hopefully Joker 2 gets a better reception.

Even though Margot Robbie's portrayal was everywhere, it was really about her alone, she barely had any scenes with the Joker and her solo movie didn't feature him either IIRC. We haven't really had a proper cinematic version of the Joker + Harley Quinn storyline. It's a twisted love story and that angle will be huge to draw in women in addition to the majority male crowd that went to see the first Joker movie. As a result this is going to have much wider appeal. Despite the R rating it could do a Barbie sized OW I feel.

Re: Joker 2 predictions
For a huge budget movie, that's the best trailer I've seen in years. Was really skeptical they could pull this off, but I think all skepticism is out the window at this point.
