Re: Gladiator Turns 20!
Crowe just went away after a few movies and Phoenix was also entirely gone for major part of last decade.
Regardless Gladiator to this day stays very good watch.

I haven't seen this for ages, but I think Gladiator was partly responsible for me getting into movies. I saw it when I was 10 and was pretty jacked afterwards.

Re: Gladiator Turns 20!
It’s a fucking classic. I too remember seeing it in theaters (with Dad and younger sis) as a 14 year old, and following its box office run, early in my days of cinephilia. And even though it wasn’t my top choice for Best Picture that year (Almost Famous and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon were tops for me), it’s an undeniably good winner I’d say.
and Russell Crowe as Maximus was sex on a mother fuckin sword and sandal stick mmmmmhmmmm.

Seems like everyone else joined this site in their teens. I’m the old guy. As far as sword and sandals movies go it’s top 3 with Ben Hur and Troy. The animated Aladdin and Braveheart round out the top 5.

Re: Gladiator Turns 20!
A very EPIC and beautiful film indeed. It's honestly probably my favorite Russel Crowe film as well and easily my second my favorite Ridley Scott film behind Alien. I really wish I had gotten to see this on the big screen like the rest of you guys, because you can definitely tell that this was a movie meant to been seen that way. As much as I love Troy and 300 none of them come close to having scenes as memorable as the ones in this movie.

This was the movie I saw on a first date with a long time ex girlfriend. Good memories back then. It’s a fantastic film really and works on so many levels. I think I predicted Troy would make $300m domestic based on this films success lol.

Great script, great acting (Crowe and Phoenix are flawless), great music, great pacing - this movie is borderline perfect. It is a reminder why Crowe was such a big star at one point.

Re: Gladiator Turns 20!
First movie I borrowed from the library when I got my library card as a kid. I guess the librarian perhaps thought it was a documentary.

Aside from everything already said, I found the soundtrack mesmerizing. It still packs a punch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBE-uBgtINg
