Re: Godzilla: King of the Monsters - Predictions
I’m going low on this one. The 2014 one had better trailers, and while I liked the movie, the ateocious legs suggest the majority of people felt burned by it. King of the Monsters kinda reminds of Pacific Rim Uprising “we’re gonna do it right this time with TONS of action”.
$55M opening, $150M total. A very weak June should help its legs significantly.
I think the marketing for this has been great, but its hard to gauge just how much hype there is among general audiences. I'm just hoping for a $90-$100M OW and a final total around $200M domestic or more.
It should easily exceed $500M-$600M WW as well.

I'll say 85 4 day. 175 total. If it wasn't for Memorial and the beginnings of Summer Days I would have said it would have been an easy to say it grossed less than Skull Island. But that had a great marketing, a much better cast, and the long wait. I would love for this to miss the unadjusted 74 million holiday weekend of Godzilla 98 though. These movies have been awful.

The OS numbers is where this will shine. The buzz on this is much lesser than first entry and it's like there is too much focus on money shots now.

Ah, that's right, I'm used to my birthday falling on Memorial Day Weekend. Then 60-70 OW/ 145 total. It's second weekend should be well under 20 million.

I loved the 2014 one and although this seems to be a horse of a different color the trailers look promising.

I'm with Flava on this one. Its legs will be bad just like Godzilla. Having the girl from Stranger Things doesn't help. First one centered on pedigree actors. This one has a little girl.

I cannot get excited at all watching the trailers. The visual style looks dreary. It's either brown on brown or blue on blue.
shut the fuck up zwackerm, you're out of your fucking element

Re: Godzilla: King of the Monsters - Predictions
There was a really really long sneak peak before Shazam Imax. The marketing for this has been so thirsty. Hoping for the best though, more Godzilla movies is always a good thing.
I must be one of the few folks who actually liked Godzilla even with hiding him by the director. I have loved every trailer and the 5 minute IMAX preview was exciting too. They should keep popping that in front of IMAX films while they can. The last audience I saw that with seemed to have nice murmurs after it ended. I really hope it does well.

Re: Godzilla: King of the Monsters - Predictions
New trailer adds nothing new for me. It looks good, but still with issues. Humans should not get involved. Not much an automatic rifle can do in a movie with 17 skyscraper-sized monsters. And it's almost all shot at night. Fuck's sake.
Yeah the trailers for this have all been pretty incredible IMO. Hopefully, the hype does increase once Endgame is out of the way.

The 5 minute clip they showed in IMAX was great.
It's so obvious when they use terrible weather to aid with CGI realism, though.

Re: Godzilla: King of the Monsters - Predictions
Awful release date, this should've come out in like February or August. It's going to flop in the United States, I could see it doing something like 50/115. That said, I'm there OD. It looks like shameless, unabashed giant monster destruction porn and I'm so ready.
The level of destruction displayed in the trailers does not correspond well to the relatively calm reactions by the human characters. It makes me a little skeptical of the movie's quality.
Prediction: $62m/$145m
