This weekend is horrible part of summer cycle, must avoid at all costs

Re: Weekend Estimates (June 7-9)
Aladdin and John Wick are clearly the winners this weekend. I guess the numbers for Dark Phoenix and SLOP2 were kind of expected, since 50m+ for DP and 70m+ for SLOP2 were always out of range. Aladdin is certainly the movie that surprises me the most, I was quite sure that it wouldn't break 200m and end up with 150-160m. I was so wrong…

Both openings are baffling to me. I know Dark Phoenix had pretty much everything against it but damn.
Pets with good legs probably won't even get to 170m. Around a 200m decrease from the first. Jesus.

Great hold for John Wick and great start for Late Night in limited release. But this weekend is mostly pretty bad. Next weekend the disappointing box office will continue.

Re: Weekend Estimates (June 7-9)
For Comparison, Origins, Logan and DOFP had opening Days over 33 million. Last Stand's OD adjusts to 62 million, X2 46 million, X1 35 million, and even FC and the Wolverine's OD adjusts to 24 million. That's a 42% drop off in audience just from the series lows. This is their Star Trek: Nemesis. Doesn't bold well for New Mutants either, but I do think the audience can still rebound as Logan, DP, and even FC and DOFP have shown.

At least New Mutants is something different being a horror movie. But who knows if it will even get a theatrical release after this flopped.

New Mutants should've stayed where it was. Not like delaying did Dark Phoenix any favors.

Pets - It bombed due to Tiffany Haddish backlash ...haha Dark Phoenix - not surprised. Bryan Singer should have directed every single film (Apocalypse notwithstanding) Aladdin - one of the biggest box-office surprises considering the negative reaction after the teaser

Re: Weekend Estimates (June 7-9)
John Wick getting potentially to $160 m and Aladdin potentially to $300 m are summer highlights.
Can't believe JW was at $43 m just 2 movies ago total. Took 4 movies for Fast to go from $62 m to $353 m. Still would be awesome to see a JW movie get to $200 m.

Also, I honestly don't even remember her being advertised in the film. I know she had a brief character trailer, but I don't recall an ad pointing her out. It mostly focused on Kevin Hart.

Re: Weekend Estimates (June 7-9)
No idea why BOM didn't use the most obvious and useful comparison (Dragon 2) for their Pets 2 showdown.
