 Re: July 7-9 predictions
I'm thinking Spider-Man will do anything between 120-137.
I'm gonna go with 131.

 Re: July 7-9 predictions
151.2m OW and 336.6m domestic ( both beating SM3) That's the minimum I expect from it.

 Re: July 7-9 predictions
Good reviews and Hollywood's new focus on blackwashing should help this overperform.

What's blackwashing? RDJ, Holland, and Keaton are all white. Or am I missing something?

 Re: July 7-9 predictions
Confused me, too. Does he mean the animated Spider-Man movie in production, where the main character is Miles Morales (the black Spider-Man)?

 Re: July 7-9 predictions
There are some blacks in the film: Zendaya, Bokeem Woodbine, Laura Harrier, Donald Glover, and Hannibal Buress. But none of them will have any impact on its box office.

 Re: July 7-9 predictions
Haven't read spoilers for the movie, but Zendaya obviously plays Mary Jane Watson. Almost as poorly kept a secret as Benedict Cumberbatch playing Khan.

 Re: July 7-9 predictions
Zendaya honestly doesn't matter much in the movie. If you've seen the trailers you've seen 3/4's of her lines/screentime.

 Re: July 7-9 predictions
I believe her character is called Michelle Jones, so an homage via initials to Mary Jane, but not the same character.
And this "black-washing" (and people say Algren should be banned, lol) is such a negligible detail, it is beyond absurd to say it will impact box office. She does not even figure into the advertising in any notable way. If, say, James Bond is ever played by a black man, it will be a conversation to have, but this? Nothing.

Agreed Spidey might be getting more of "MCU-washing" than any "black-washing"

 Re: July 7-9 predictions
It's amusing: franchise fatigue is on everyone's lips with Alien, Despicable Me, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Transformers, but I feel no franchise is more fatigued Spider-Man on its third incarnation in 15 years. But I guess the Marvel Cinematic Universe will compensate.

 Re: July 7-9 predictions
Continuing franchise vs reboots makes a difference I believe. This one doesn't look like its going to tell the same origins story like the last two movies did.

But I guess the Marvel Cinematic Universe will compensate. Agreed - I am really curious to know what % of the public are aware of the differences between the Spider-Man series. Tony Stark makes worlds of difference here and does make it feel fresh and new, ironically enough considering we've seen 9+ films with Tony Stark.

 Re: July 7-9 predictions
Well Spidey certainly got the open market it needed to break out. I feel like the buzz is bigger than Guardians, but G2 had a hella great weekend multiplyer. I could see it getting the same $56m opening day but falling $10m lower on the weekend. So I'll go $134m.
