Post Will ROTS be released in IMAX DMR?
Attack of the Clones was released in IMAX DMR on Nov. 1st, 2002, after it's inital theatrical release was on May 16th 2002.

The IMAX version made $8.5 million in addition to that film's original gross of $302 million - those two releases combined for AOTC's total domestic box office of $310,676,740.

So, if Lucas decides to release ROTS in IMAX DMR, how much do people estimate it will gross in addition to the original theatrical version?

I'm guessing $18 million...

(If anyone is interested, Big Movie Zone has news on IMAX and IMAX DMR films.)

if Warner Brothers could do it with Reloaded, REvolutions and soon Batman Begins, why the hell couldn't FOX/Lucasfilm do the same with ROTS? i don't want to wait till christmas or next year.............AARRGHH!!

...and that $18 million is what's gonna take the gross from the low $450's over the top of loyal's 470 Club!

( 3 cheers for the 470 Club ! ! ! )

C'mon! While you're waitng for this week's Friday#'s - why not take a guess at ROTS's IMAX BO!

(For AOTC, they didn't announce the IMAX DMR version until September...)

As visually beautiful as it is, ROTS should certainly gross more, a lot more, and some more, than AOTC.

So, $43.34m should be fine prediction.

it WILL NOT make as much as AOTC if it came out at all, which it prob wont due to the fact there are not many IMAX theatres in the US and already WB has made contracts with most if not all of them to show Batman and Charlie when they are released...

so basically there is no room for ROTS and even if it had come out the same day as the movie it would have only had a month before it got kicked out for Batman *shrug*

In the spirit of utterly idle speculation: 13.5M
Reason: Bit more that ATOC, but IMAX never ends up living up to the potential people see for it.

Batman and Charlie will be released on the same day in IMAX as it is in the theatres...

I guess if ROTS waits till oct then maybe it could come up with a few million more but I just dont see it, the hype will be over, mainly because every theatre that had an IMAX was showing ROTS already on it just not in IMAX form (was called giant screen, basically a normal print on a huge ass screen). And most people I know dont care if its IMAX or 'giant screen' as long as they see it in the IMAX theatre they are happy

AOTC made $8 million during a one-month IMAX run. I don't see why Sith couldn't match it.

I don't know. Around $15-20 million, I suppose.

I so hope they put ROTS on IMAX. The AOTC IMAX experience was absolutely breathtaking.

And what a beautiful sight it is to see an "IMAX Experience" movie listed for a theater that is within 40 minutes of where I live. That would be Batman Begins at the AMC Olathe 30--their premiere movie on their new IMAX screen.

It gives me chills to think of all the movies I'll now get to see on IMAX. Our Sprint IMAX theater never played Matrix or Harry Potter or even Polar Express. Last movie they played was Spider-Man 2, if I remember right. So, I'm thrilled that we'll now have an IMAX screen that will actually show Warner Bros. pictures.... including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (July 15th cannot come soon enough!).

Anyway, I think the opening scenes of ROTS almost feel like they were made with IMAX in mind. I mean, can you imagine those battles on a 6-8 story screen with that awesome IMAX sound system? *sighs* Those silent-then-loud bombs used by Obi-Wan in the asteroid scene in AOTC were so awesome on IMAX.

Okay, here are the predictions so far:

Nebs - $43.34 million
Zingaling - $15-20 million
Bradley Witherberry - $18 million
deathawk - $13.5 million
Animosity Reigns - less than $8.5 million
The Dark Shape - $8 million

Winner to be declared in December 2005...

All the Portland IMAX has ever played aside from those 40 minute documentaries is Attack of the Clones, which always sold out days in advance. I was really pumped when they said there'd be a full length movie opening there on June 15th. However, through some sort of incredibly bad luck, it's Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. Still awesome, but oh man if I didnt' want to see Batman. And they don't change the schedule until September 1st supposedly. Arrrrrrgh. At least the Lloyd Center has the giant screen, which is the regular print on huge screen people were talking about.

They're already showing ROTS in my imax theater, but I've never seen it advertised as playing at imax. Of course, they're taking it out next week to make room for Batman Begins.

It's possible that what's playing at your IMAX theater is actually the 35mm movie blown-up using a special lens. The Branson IMAX has a system like that:

http://www.bransonimax.com/IMAX_35.htm

Hehehe... if you'll notice, on the right side column, they have a message in red stating they have no plans to show Star Wars as of right now. I bet they were getting tons of e-mails and calls about it... hehehe
