2012 will still hold the record at the end of the year. I really could see this year being the first to have 6 or even 7 films over the 300 million mark.

$300m + to $600m+ movies of 2015

Should Definitely Make It
Avengers: Age of Ultron
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
Total: 3

Candidates
Furious 7
Jurassic World
Inside Out
Minions
Ant-Man
The Good Dinosaur
Spectre
Total: 7

Hmm, I think 2015 will tie 2012, but not beat it. Aside from your three locks, I believe Jurassic World and Spectre will make it. The Pixar flicks and Minions will fnish with $250-300 million. Don't rule out Furious 7, which will almost certanly hit $250 million and might have a shot at $300 million. I currently predict $270 million, but it could go higher. Not feeling Ant-Man yet.

I agree with the locks. I think Jurassic World could make it, but the advertising and movie have to be great. I'm pretty sure Minions will make it past 300M. They are still huge right now. We don't know anything about Good Dinosaur yet, and I'm not sold on Ant-Man. Inside Out looks great, and might make it. Spectre has a good shot too, along with Furious 7. I think there's also a small chance that Cinderella could make it, but that's a long shot.

I included Ant-Man because its from Marvel and you never know, but I'm starting to feel it will do around Thor 2 numbers.
I'll add Furious 7, though that would be an insane increase. Cinderella still seems like a long shot though.

lolwut?

Cinderella has a 60/40 shot at $300 mil.

Ant Man has a 20/80 shot at $300 mil... AT BEST.

I understand the thinking though. Marvel has surprised us over and over and over again. You can never count them out. I really don't believe that Ant-Man will make $300 million, but I would have said the same about Guardians of the Galaxy a year ago.

But with Guardians, I think we were all aware that it had $150+ mil almost locked up.

Ant Man? That has the potential to make less than $100 mil.

Minions and Jurassic World have the best shot out of the candidates list. I think Spectre won't pass Skyfall but we'll see how the marketing is.

Some did predict $100 million for Guardians or less. We actually had no clue whatsoever how it would do. I think Ant-Man will make $160-180 million, but I'll be the last person to doubt Marvel at this point.

As for Spectre, I think it is almost a given that it will be received worse thasn Skyfall (I read a lot of spoilers from the Sony leak and it doesn't appear to be a great film), BUT Skyfall was extremely well-received and if Sony gives it one hell of a marketing, Spectre could open to $120 million, thus making $300+ million possible even with just decent (and not great) WoM.

3 locks seem fine. I believe the next inline will be Minions. One of the Pixar movies might do it as well though not sure. The next highly probable for me is Spectre, don't think Furious 7 will make it.

Post Re: $300m + to $600m+ movies of 2015
I will predict that Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part II all make $300m. But Jurassic World will miss it. Inside Out has no chance. Furious 7 will miss it but still increase from Fast six. Minions is a tough call. I'd love it to reach $300m, but I just don't see the box office suddenly producing 4+ $300m grossing films when 2014 showed that box office is declining. Ant-Man, lol. No way. The Good Dinosaur, nope too. Skyfall making $300m was an anomaly in the Bond franchise. Spectre, as much as I'd like to see it make $300m, will fall short. Cinderella will fall in the same ball park as Maleficent and Oz: The Great and Powerful, so that will miss too.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens is more likely to miss $300m than Avengers: Age of Ultron and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part II. If it does, I would be happy including Minions as a $300m grosser. But it matters little because by December 2015 we'll already know if Minions made it.

I believe we'll have 3 films pass 300m and 10 pass 250m. The locks are the locks but the rest appear to be big hits that will just fall short of 300m. We could be surprised offcourse which will make it all the more exciting to watch.

With Furious 7 likely to make it, I'm bumping Spectre to sub 300.

My list
Avengers: Age of Ultron
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2
Minions
The Good Dinosaur

Spectre, Jurassic World, and Inside Out, IMO, will also do over 250 million, but miss 300.

Why bump Spectre out? What does one have to do with the other?

7 movies over 300 million isn't happening, so Spectre is the one I predicted previously that I was most on the fence about.

Furious 7 still doesn't sputter out as it reaches the 300 million finish line.
$300m+ to 600m+ movies of 2015
Rank - Movie - Number of days to reach the mark - Date on which they reached the mark
1. Furious 7- 20 - April 22

Furious 7 has finally given the long lasting franchise an installment to hit the 300 million mark. It can final. Even if the franchise drops like a rock from here, I still think Fast 8 can do 300 million

Upcoming Films Avengers: Age of Ultron

Avengers has the third quickest sprint to 300 million ever! (And that's disappointing) :(
$300m+ to 600m+ movies of 2015
Rank - Movie - Number of days to reach the mark - Date on which they reached the mark
1. Furious 7- 20 - April 22
2. Avengers: Age of Ultron - 10 - May 10

Avengers: Age of Ultron hasn't performed anywhere near what was expected of it, but it still managed 300 million by the end of its second weekend . It appears to be on pace for a total between 450 and 475 million, which is nothing to sneeze at, but is very disappoining for a hotly anticipated sequel to the third biggest film ever domestically.

Upcoming Films The next lock for this mark is The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, but Minions and Jurassic World each have a very good chance. I don't think anyone expects Ant-Man to get there at this point, but its not out of the realm of possibility.
