 Re: Early Friday numbers
That would be a 53% increase from Thursday and a 29% decline from last Friday for Star Wars.

 Re: Early Friday numbers
$90m in the 3rd weekend is incredible!! We won't see this performance for many years to come.

 Re: Early Friday numbers
Avatar's 3rd weekend multiplier would put it around $94M. But this is Star Wars... So I'm not ruling out a hunded just yet. It needs around $98m to pass Avatar if my math is correct.

RTH says Quote: TFA 34.2,DH 11.2,H8 6.2,SIS 4.7,ALVIN 4.3,JOY 3.9,TBS 3.3,CONS 3,PB 2.6 So it looks like 90-92M weekend for TFA.

Having 650 in the bank already and having a 90 mil weekend is outrageous

OK great numbers. As expected huge but not at the level of Avatar in terms of holds/drops.

 Re: Early Friday numbers
So mid teens for Hateful Eight - soft for a QT film but not surprising.
It can still eek out a solid $70m+ gross as long as The Revenant doesnt kill it.

 Re: Early Friday numbers
Very strange that The Hateful Eight was only released in 100 cinemas on Christmas day. Why didn't it just follow Django's idea last year? That did well enough.
It burned off $13m of demand last week, so the mid-teens opening is actually not too bad. It could have made $25m or so if it opened wide on opening weekend.

That's a really good Fri/Fri hold for Daddy's Home. Surprise of the season I'd say.

 Re: Early Friday numbers
Because the holds are similar to Avatar till now even if on a lower end and when I did point the same in predictions thread people complained that I was being pessimistic.

 Re: Early Friday numbers
H8's underperformance is good for The Revenant. I expect a massive overperformance is due.
Alvin could be at a 5X multiplier by its 3rd weekend. $100 m from a $14 m OW. By comparison, the last Alvin movie had a 5.72 X multiplier for its entire run.
Sisters looks like it might just eek out $100 m.
DH looks good for $150 m + at this rate. Might make a run for Ferrell's biggest film ever to beat Elf.
From a $90 m 3day, SW Ep. 7 needs about a 3.87 multiplier to get to $1 B. Should just get there but I don't think it has enough steam to get to $1.1 B unless it has an unbelievable hold next weekend. $1 B is not a lock though it is likely.

 Re: Early Friday numbers
When was the last time (if ever) that a film increased in its 2nd and 3rd weekends?

 Re: Friday Numbers
Third biggest non opening Friday. I think this week's dailies will be interesting but everything from this point is just gravy. The whole run is insane.
I think that's just fine for H8. It'll likely drop hard next week cause of Revenant.

 Re: Friday Numbers
It's odd to think that SW7's third Friday will also beat the second Friday record held by CF at 31 million that it just creamed last weekend as well.

Magnus wrote: Joy had the weakest increase in the top 10 by a good amount. With no real award boost coming, it probably does somewhere around 60m-65m. A good total for a drama that won't win any awards though given its 60m budget they were obviously hoping for more. Maybe JLaw shouldn't be paid as much as she wants to be. Meh, it really ought to have done better, IMO. Especially for my draft. It's only hope is a nom for Lawrence to get it to 75-80 million.

Magnus wrote: first real "good not great" number for TFA imo. likely will do just under 95m for the weekend. Should be about a 37% drop for the weekend which obviously is pretty damn good. Though the quest for a billion got a bit tougher as a 100m+ weekend would have assured such a tally. So 5m determines whether or not it'll hit 1b?

 Re: Friday numbers
Joy had the weakest Friday increase because it had the best Thursday hold being more of a New Year Eve movie.
