 Re: Jan 1-3 Predictions
TFA - three times more whatever zwackerm thinks it will make
And I also think Hateful Eight will make less than 50 % of what Django did, OW and total.

 Re: Jan 1-3 Predictions
It's going to be an interesting weekend. I can't recall a major film opening on NY's day ever. Plus SW is likely to post another set of insane numbers.
Hateful Eight - 23m

 Re: Jan 1-3 Predictions
Django would have done 40 million + on a regular 3 day, if this can't at least crack 25, it's a disappointment.

 Re: Jan 1-3 Predictions
Hateful 8 is only 1,800 theaters (estimated), so low 20s would still be great for this,

 Re: Jan 1-3 Predictions
H8ful- 18.5m (going off the theater count listed above)
SW: TFA: -30% Daddy's Home: -38% Joy: -25% Concussion: -28% The Big Short: -20% Point Break: -42%
But, I really have no clue. Difficult when you really only have one apt comparison (2009/10).

 Re: Jan 1-3 Predictions
I honestly believe, say, 15m would be fine for it.
A lot of people (a lot of the Tarantino faithful) are already seeing it at 100 locations nationwide or...by other means. Its nationwide theatre count is still relatively modest. It does not have a Leonardo DiCaprio-caliber star.

The Hateful Eight - 22
I think a low 20's opening would be great for THE. It doesn't have the hype or appeal Django had and like some have already said it's missing Dicaprio level starpower.

 Re: Jan 1-3 Predictions
It appears to be a watered down version of Django, in a way. Kurt Russell for DiCaprio, Sam Jackson for Jamie Foxx, and misogyny for racism. Basically it will be another Jackie Brown or Death Proof in Tarantino's career (i.e. not one that people will remember).

 Re: Jan 1-3 Predictions
At its core Django is a heroes journey and by far the most broadly appealing movie he's ever made.
I think Hateful Eight will land around $22m which would be great.

What's the chance TFA tops 100m a 3rd straight wknd???? As much as I want it to I think it'll fall around 10m short.

If SW7 will have a -41.7% drop or lower then it will beat the highest January OW.

 Re: Jan 1-3 Predictions
I saw Hateful Eight. Very good but definitely not in the upper echelon of QT films in terms of quality. It's a "smaller" movie and I don't expect Django numbers but that's ok.

 Re: Jan 1-3 Predictions
Good lord I just saw that Avatar declined less than 10% this weekend. I was thinking SW could follow Avatar from this weekend but I just don't see that kind of numbers with those HUGE numbers.
SW7 - $100m (Unless it see more than 45% decline Disney should get the 3rd weekend with $100m record). The Hateful 8 - $12m (a lot of this weekend was due to high prices)

 Re: Jan 1-3 Predictions
Based on my audience's reaction, I expect word-of-mouth to be a bit muted compared to Tarantino's prior two films. Among more casual viewers. During the intermission, I overheard conversations to the tune of, "This is moving so slow. ANOTHER HOUR AND A HALF? Should we just go eat dinner? Do you care what happens next?"

QT is a masturbatory wanker. People should expect that. They liked Pulp Fiction, after all.
Star Wars +200%

 Re: Jan 1-3 Predictions
Hateful Eight just isn't as accessible as his last couple of films. It's clear as day that its going to be long and the single setting (mainly) certainly doesn't entice people to give up 3 hours. I'm going to see it as a QT fan but to be honest it feels like a bit of a choir to find the time to see it (especially as there are other films worth seeing at the moment).

I see SW7 dropping about 50% to the high 70s. $76m
