Hotel Transylvania 2 spent seven (non-consecutive) weeks there as #1 and, in fact, regained the top spot from Spectre in its 8th weekend (while Spectre was in its second).

From my short research it appears that Hotel Transylvania 2 ($19.8 million) is Venezuela's third-biggest film ever already, only behind Minions and Inside Out. I guess the box-office (or exchange rate) exploded this year and the people there really really really love animated films... The first Hotel Transylvania made $5.2 million three years ago, placing at #11 in its own year, so it cannot be just the exchange rate or market growth...

Venezuelan BO numbers in $ are just monopoly money. They report based on $1 = 6.3 blr though no studio can get that all out. If you look at quaterly report of most companies they are valuing bolivars close to 200 per dollar.

But Venezuelan BO is incredibly leggy.

Why did Jurassic World do so poorly there?

I think animation movies tend to do the best in Venezuela. That is why IO and Minions are top 2 in admissions this year. Beyond that Furious 7 broke out big and that almost has a "local flavor".

I was always amazed with the Venezuela gross for The Expendables movies.
